Moonlight

"Somewhere, somehow, I might see you again, Ina."

Drenched in cold sweats and tears, Mayu found herself awake in the middle of the night. Her eyes automatically looked at the clock placed near her closet to check the time. 2pm. She blanky stared at the hands of the clock, the ticking sound made her head spin. It was that dream again. The same person who she longed to see was in that dream again. And her heart shattered into pieces as always.

"I miss you..." was all she had the energy to mutter. With her heavy chest and sluggish feet, she decided to stand up to see the world outside, as it was the only thing that she could do to tire herself out so she could go back to sleep. She walked to the window and drew the curtains aside to let the tiny moonlight in. She had always been a sucker for the beauty the moon and the stars showed at night. It was as if the constellations were there to pacify her aching heart and the universe knew that the moonlight could do wonders to her dying soul. It was as if the universe was aware that she could only hold on to its beauty to keep going. With her half-closed eyes, she sighed heavily with the attempt to ease the pain she was feeling.

"I know she's happy now, I hope she is."

The thought almost made her feel better, so she walked her way back to her bed and laid down to continue her slumber. She convinced herself that this would be the last time she would allow the loneliness to consume her. Although she knew better, she promised herself to free herself of the guilt.
