Chapter 3: The Family part 1- Introduction to them
My house was only a five minute walk from the male hunter house so I was home in no time. The whole walk home I had just kept my mind blank, not really allowing it to think of much. Me thinking too much wasn’t too good for anyone. If I just sat down and thought about random things, I started to question way too many things and way too many revelations appeared to me causing my already unstable world to slowly break down even more.
Walking off the footpath of the street I came to the path leading to my house. The path went straight with huge gardens on either side before going around a bend. The path was about the same size as the road, allowing a line of cars to go one way while a line of cars goes the opposite way next to them. Going around the bend I came to the large gate that was built to keep unwanted things out while containing the things within its boundaries inside. It was a safety precaution my father made when he designed the house. I didn’t bother going to the little guard house that controlled when the gate was opened or closed, I just decided to get off the path and sneak in. Thankfully it was still too early in the evening for the fence to be put on, seeing as the fence was electric.
Throwing my bag over I saw and heard it land softly on the grass. Stepping three or four metres away from the fence I took a breath before sprinting towards it. The bottom of the fence was a good metre or two of some type of solid metal just blocked there that went deep into the ground stopping people from digging in before splitting into poles, the gaps between each pole too small for anyone to fit through. The top had spikes on it, made to impale anyone stupid enough to try and climb over it… kind of like what I was doing now. Only I had more experience with this fence so I wouldn’t be impaled.
I ran up the gate before putting my foot on top of the small amount of fence that was like a wall and pushing myself up. There was kind of a bar thing at the top that I grabbed onto and used the momentum I had to swing myself up and to the side, pulling my legs to the side and successfully jumping my fence. I pushed my body away from the fence so there wasn’t any chance of getting any injury on the way down, or landing on my bag and prepared my body for the impact from the large drop I had just taken. Landing on the balls of my feet I bent my legs at the knees to help take the impact, and landed quietly on the grass and successfully in the confines of the gate. Picking my gym bag up I walked across my large front yard.
My home was literally the definition of a mansion. It was huge, practically a fortress yet disguised well with the beauty it held. It was elegant and a mix between something modern and something old. It had so many rooms I lost count, all to accommodate for large scores of people for public matters within the clan. There were many windows lining the house and like most buildings in my neighbourhood the house stood in the centre of the large property it sat on.
The reason for this was so that we could see our enemies coming at us from angles through the many windows through the house. Dad purposely did this. It was a safety precaution, one I thought was ridiculous. For starters our house was in the middle of the large portion of area we owned and made clan land. It would take a rather large clan (almost the size of mine) to storm the place and even have a chance of getting to my house, which held all the important people of this clan. Pretty much it was impossible to get to our house, through the many guards and safety precautions taken from the edge of our border to the large death trap, called a fence, keeping things it didn’t want in, out.
Finally making it to the front door I was surprised I wasn’t noticed or stopped by one of the many guards wondering our lands. The guards were hunters doing the duty in protecting the land, which is what Aaron meant before when he said he had a shift. Joining the area of the clan you were assigned to guarding a certain part of clan lands, and unfortunately Aaron wasn’t assigned to this part of the land. He was just further up the street with other officials of our clan.
