KATHRYN'S POV

As I slip under the covers, I hear a knock on the door. My head immediately snaps up as I stare blankly at the closed door. I make no movements.

"Kathryn?" Jack practically whines on the other side of the door. I freeze at the sound of his voice. I feel paralyzed.

Remaining silent, I hear shuffling and quiet grunting on the other side. I furrow my eyebrows, wondering what the hell he's doing.

I hear a small click and watch the doorknob turn. Jack opens the door slowly and walks inside, a small key ring around his index finger.

Jack looks at my puzzled expression with a smirk and holds up his finger, "Master key." He tosses the keys onto the bedside table, causing a slight clank as it hits the wooden surface. He sits down on the bed carelessly, throwing his legs on top of the mattress.

I turn to him incredulously and spit out, "What are you doing?"

He lets out a sigh of relief as he slides his legs under the silky comforter, "Going to sleep."

I feel my heart race and I don't know why. I look at him with dark eyes, "What is wrong with you?" Jack turns to look at me with his eyebrows casually raised. I continue harshly, "Is running away from you and locking the door not a good enough indicator I don't want to be near you?"

He looks at me with a big smile, "Are you really gonna make me sleep in that big house alone?"

"Yes?" I respond bluntly.

He ignores me, slipping the other half of his body completely under the sheets and resting his head on the pillow next to mine. I feel his body heat radiate on my bare legs from the inside of the sheets. He closes his eyes as I stare at him unbelievably. This is fucking ridiculous.

I huff once, grabbing my pillow and slipping out from under the sheets. I walk to the floor of the bedroom and place the pillow neatly on the ground. I lay down on the cold carpet in annoyance, my head facing away from Jack. At least this is more favorable than sleeping in my car.

I hear Jack sit up. He strains his neck as he searches for me in the dark room. I hear the sound of sheets being tossed around messily and footsteps growing louder with each movement. I clench my jaw and shut my eyes. He better be leaving.

Instead, I hear Jack grunt dangerously close to my ear as he lays down beside me, throwing the blanket over both of our exposed bodies. I turn my body towards him, my eyes bulging out of my head. I open my mouth to argue, but his eyes are already closed. I stare at him angrily. What does this kid not understand?

After a moment, I repeat in a yell-whisper, "What the hell are you doing?"

He's unresponsive. I stare at him for a minute, making sure he's truly asleep. I assume the alcohol knocked him out. I bite my lip and turn back around, my head facing away from Jack.

I contemplate getting up and returning to the bed, but my exhaustion takes over. I feel my eyelids close and my body slowly enter unconsciousness. I'm at the point where I'm not fully awake, yet not fully asleep.

Suddenly, I feel an arm gently wrap itself around my waist, hugging my stomach and pulling my body closer. To my utter disappointment, the feeling soothes me.

My eyelids flicker as I hear Jack's raspy voice say in a soft whisper, "I can tell you don't like sleeping alone either." He pauses. "I can feel it when I hold you."

I fall asleep sinking in his words.

"Katie?" I flutter my eyes open at the sound of the familiar voice. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stick up; I haven't heard that voice in half a year. My mom shakes my shoulders, her eyes cloaked with uncertainty.
