✧Avery's P.O.V✧

I stepped out of my dad's car, taking a deep breath as my sky coloured orbs scoped out the new surroundings. This was it, I thought. Time for a change, no more being judged for my power. I'll be with people just like me.

The world was thrown into utter disarray a little over 30 years ago when humans began to inherit supernatural powers. Where did they come from? Nobody knows, although most people treated the ones who had them as though they were diseased.

I had to suffer ten long years in a high school with normies, as us supernatural beings would call them. I tried to keep my power hidden for as long as I could, but once someone found out about it, the news spread like wildfire. Every walk down the halls would consist of students firing names at me like:

'Vile,'

'Disgusting,'

'Creature,'

'Abnormal.'

It hurt. Like hell. But that was all in the past, it's time to push those bad memories away and start creating some new ones.

"Alright honey, that's everything." My dad said, slamming the boot closed before walking around to where I was. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay longer?"

I shook my head, no, a small smile emerging on my lips.

"Thanks dad, but I'll be fine from here on out." I said, my tone softening as I noticed the tears welling above his bottom lid.

I couldn't blame him for crying, although my parents are normies, they've never treated me differently. To them, I have and always will be their baby girl. And they couldn't bare me moving away.

He threw his arms around my small frame, pulling me close to his chest as he started to sob into my snow coloured hair. Even I couldn't help but shed a few tears. He rubbed circles into my back with his thumb, a reassuring act he'd make whenever I was upset.

"Good luck, with your new school." He said, although his voice was a little shaky from his uncontrollable sobbing. "Y-You better ring us every day, and-"

"Maybe not every day," I chuckled into his shoulder, forcing myself away from the hug as I looked up at him. "Whenever I'm free. But I'll definitely FaceTime you and mum from time to time." I reassured him through words.

That seemed to be a good enough answer for him as he patted my head, wiping his tears away with the base of his palm before walking back around and letting himself into the driver's seat. I also walked around, waiting for him to roll down the window before saying our final goodbyes.

Dorm assignments, honestly, I was more excited than I should've been for this moment. The chance to make a new friend before classes start. So then you won't look like an complete loner.

Am I late or early? I asked myself mentally, noticing the lack of people inside. I pulled my suitcase by the handle up to the front desk where I was greeted by a lady with a warm smile forced onto her cherry red lips. She looked at me and then down at my baggage before adjusting the glasses that sat upon the bridge of her nose.

"Good morning," she finally said after a small moment of silence.

"Morning." I responded back.
