The wind whipped against my bare arms like freezing hands slapping every inch of my naked skin. Yet I didn't pay attention to it. I was concentrating on finding Cali who I had seen running in wolf form down this path and into the bushes.  I slipped on the muddy track and blood trickled from the small cut on my arm. The sound of the trees swaying in the breeze turned to waves crashing against rock. I pushed myself through the last bush.

There stood the white wolf staring forlornly at the dark sea that was crashing against the cliffs. I moved to sit next to her. "So, you're a werewolf?" I said absentmindedly staring at the water below.

"Yeah... but aren't you afraid of me?" I turned to see Cali sitting where the wolf was.

"No, I'm more interested than afraid" I told her

Cali sighed "Well what do you want to know?"

"Everything" I said "I want to know everything"

"In the beginning of time the Gods created humans but over time the Gods mated with some of the humans. Were-wolfs, witches, faeries, mermaids are the results" Cali explained.

I gasped "All them things exist?"

"Yeah and goblins, elves, sirens. I believe that under these waves there is a cave with an entire mermaid colony in" Cali laid down on her side. Her eyes calm and watchful.

I picked a blade of grass and twisted it in between my fingers "So are you a mix of things?"

"Yeah, I'm a monster" Cali turned onto her back and stared at the night sky.

I looked away from her small form "Then we all are monsters"

Cali sighed "I guess"

"We are all monsters in our own special way" I say gently

"I don't want to be a monster" She whispered. "The happy-go-lucky personality is Cali. The cruel wolf is Calypso. That is why I prefer to be called Cali... It makes me feel more normal. There are times though where Calypso takes over. In the car for example, she was happy to get the chance to kill an animal in the woods with Rosa's permission. My mother was a witch and I cling to that side of me. I don't like turning into Calypso... I'm scared I'd hurt a human."

"Cali... I may have only known you for a short time, but I don't think that you would hurt a human. You are not a monster" I grab hold of her head and force her to look at me.

Anger flared in her eyes "You don't know what I am capable of" She spat.

"Maybe I don't but I still believe that you aren't a monster." I stared at her forcefully "You can be whoever you want to be. You don't have to be a monster"

"But I am a monster" She sighed "Never mind... lets go back" She struggled to her feet and walked into the bushes without a backwards glance. I sighed taking one last glance in the sea.  I pitied Cali, she truly hated what she was. Yet I guess I'll never understand her pain. We walked back to the house in silence.

Rosa greeted us at the front door. She smiled at us as we walked by her. "Guess what..."

"What?" Cali asked half-hearted.

"I found out where Bria is being held" She teased.

I spun around to face her "Where?"

"4 hours away in a small town on the edge of the A.C.D.R Nature Reserve" She explained. I nodded processing this information. All Creatures Deserve Respect Nature Reserve is a place where creatures such as the 3 headed spotted Tiger runs free. I have never visited there before but I once had to study it in Biology. Did you know that The A.C.D.R Nature has over 750 million visitors a year? " We need you to get a basic grasp of your powers first though Hope. I suggest we spend tomorrow training then we leave first thing the day after."

"Yeah but Hope refused to even try when I was helping her" Cali moaned.

Rosa was silent for a moment "Why do you think the headmaster asked for both you and Rayden to train her?"

Cali shrugged "To punish me?"

"No...  Have you ever though that maybe you and Rayden despite your clear difficulties work well as a team when things really matter?"

"No we don't." Cali huffed

"Deny it all you want Cali, but it is the truth" She told her sternly

"Whatever.." Cali said storming up the stairs.

"I think I need to call Rayden here" Rosa winked at me.

"Is that a good idea?" I asked dumbfounded

"Yes, you see despite their differences in... opinions, they do care for each other. When Cali isn't around Rayden can get very protective of her." Rosa said resting her arm around my shoulder "Cali doesn't want to end up like her uncle. Rayden doesn't either but he knows he can control his urges"

"Tell me about their uncle" I ask.

"A couple of years back their uncle attacked a group of people killing all of them. It was all over the news" I nodded remembering the trial "Cali doesn't think she can control the power so she hates it."

"I see... I'm going to bed. Goodnight" I remove her arm and walk towards the stairs.

Rosa calls after me "Good night Hope, remember if you have any nightmares Cali is in the room next to yours and mine is just down the hall" I nodded but continued up the stairs towards my room.

I fell onto my bed thinking about everything. About Bria being only 4 hours away. About Cali and Rayden being were-wolfs. I yawned today has been a tiring day. As I snuggled under the covers a sobbing noise drifted through the wall. However heartless this my sound the noise helped me drift off into a deep sleep...
