Dean sat there on the bench, bouncing his leg nervously. He checked the time on his phone. "12:40 and she hasn't showed. Maybe she won't show. I hope she comes."he thought to himself.
Dean got up a little early this morning to get ready for this "date" as Kate called it. He clicks the lock button on his phone and looks around for her. As he scans the crowd he catches a glimpse of a black haired girl in a tan coat sitting on a bench across the mall. Bingo.
Dean walks over to her and plops down. "Hey Kate."He says with a smirk. "You know your on the wrong bench. Right?"
"No, I think I'm on the right one..." She looks around, checking her surroundings. "Well, Im not on the right bench." She gave him a shy smile. "Sorry Dean."
Dean laughs "It's okay." He laughs.
"Where's Sam?" Kate asked with a questioning look.
"He's with a family friend, Ellen, for the rest of this week." he answered happily. "So how are you?" he lays an arm on the back of the bench.
"Oh, great. We got a puppy Tuesday! He is so adorable." She exclaimed.
"That's awesome. What's his name?" Dean asked.
"I don't know. Me and dad have been debating names all week."
"So your moms not getting in between the debate hua?" Dean laughed thinking of her and some man in a heated debate about a dogs name.
Kate looked down for a second while her facial expression flickered to something unreadable. Dean worried he had said something wrong when he saw her face turn to him with a sad but friendly look.
"Dean, I don't know my mother. It's okay to assume I had one because every family dose. But it's no big deal." That was all Kate really wanted to say about it but she knew Dean would press the issue. Everyone else had. She always made up some reason why she didn't have a mother because the truth was unknown to her.
"Oh I understand. I'm sorry I assumed." There was a short silence while Dean gathered his thoughts. He decided to tell her why he understood what it felt like to not have a mother.
"I don't really know my mom either. When I was around six my mom died in a house fire." Dean wanted Kate to know that she's not completely alone because sometimes that's how he felt.
There was another silent moment wile he half hugged her and told her he was sorry again.
He sighed "Okay enough with the chick flick moment. Let's go do something fun." Dean said as he pulled her up off the bench.
"Like what?" Kate turned her head and narrowed her eyes in a questioning look.
"Liiiiiiike... " Dean looked around for something to do but couldn't really find anything. Then a thought came to mind. "Well I could meet your new puppy..." he gave her a questioning yet flirty look.
"I don't know if my dads home or not but sure." Kate was hiding her nervousness because she had never had a boy at home by herself before.
"Alright. Do you want to just ride in my car or what?" Dean asked, not sure.
"My dad actually drove me here so I guess ride with you. If that's okay?" she asked kinda shy.
"Yea that's great." he smirked.
As they were walking through the mall to the parking lot, their hands touched. It was purely by accident but Kate then decided to grab Dean's hand. Dean couldn't hide his happy grin and Kate had red cheeks and a her shy smile as they held hands.
When they got to the car Dean let go I Kate's hand and patted the hood of his car. "This here, is Baby." He looked at his car with pride then jogged to the passenger door and held it open for Kate.
"Oh, and Baby comes with a gentleman. Thank-you Dean." Kate said with a wink. "Where we headed?" Dean asked while leaning on the door. "Um.. 221 Waterlick Lane." She answered. He knew exactly where that was because his dad bought the house on that road.
Dean got in the drivers side and started the car. 'I'm All Out of Love' started blaring through the speakers while Dean fumbled to shut it up. Finally he turned the volume all the way down and looked at Kate with wide eyes.
"That did not happen." he blurted. Kate busted out laughing "Yes it did!" She gasped between laughs.
Dean then decided that sense Kate already knew about his sappy song cassette, he'd just blast it. Plus it was good music. Dean turned the volume up and lip synced every bit while Kate laughed.
