06 – Demon in Training

Though Dean had insisted the motel was horrible hunting grounds, they used it as training grounds. There weren't many occupants in the rooms, so for training purposes, they only nabbed one victim.

"This is a trial run, then we'll hit the road," Dean told her.

Selina inspected her prey. Dean had knocked the man unconscious in order to kidnap him, and the two were waiting for him to stir. Selina thought Dean was insane, nabbing someone in broad daylight. But hey, no authorities were knocking down the door. So far so good. For now.

"What am I supposed to do with him?" asked Selina, who was tempted to poke the man awake. She was currently toying with a small blade, having poked her fingertips with it to figure out how sharp it was. Oh, it'd be easy enough to cut into the man's skin.

"I'll let you figure it out. I'll make sure he doesn't escape, you do the dirty work." As emphasis, Dean blocked the only way in or out of their motel room: the door. He leaned against it, arms folded in an intimidating manner.

"Didn't think to tie him up for me?"

"Now where's the fun in that if they can't try and go anywhere?"

The man stirred just then, and Selina watched intently. The man looked to be in his mid-twenties, with piercing gray eyes. His build was thin, so if he tried to fight his way out, the two demons could subdue him easily, with or without demonic power.

"Well, hello there, sunshine," Dean greeted the man.

The man leapt to his feet, surprisingly nimble for someone who was coming back from unconsciousness. He spun in circles, frightened, unsure of what he was going on. When his eyes settled on Selina, she offered him a mocking wave.

"Who the hell are you people?" the man demanded in a weak tone. "What do you want with me?"

"Congrats, man, you're gonna be part of history," Dean announced.

The man was befuddled. "Say what?"

"You see her?" Dean nodded towards Selina. "She's a demon in training. She needs to truly earn her black eyes. You're gonna help her."

"D-demons?"

On cue, both demons flashed their black eyes. The man screamed, and Selina was quick to run to him and cover his mouth with her hand. She shook her head at him.

"No freebies until the pain starts," she cooed.

Though Selina's hand covered the human's mouth, his words were still clear to her ears: "Look, j-just take what you want from me. D-don't kill me."

"Sorry, dude, but I don't make the rules here. You see, humans aren't quite at the top of the food chain like you're trained to believe. There're monsters like me and my mentor over there. We need to keep this world in check, balance out Mother Nature and all that shit. We're doing her a favor. When natural disasters and bad luck won't kill you, we step in.

"Now, let's begin."

As the man pleaded, Selina ignored him. She was hesitant with the first cut into the man's skin. The hesitance quickly evaporated, and she began to let herself enjoy torturing this man. She'd let him run around the room, wait for him to tire himself out before she went back to work. Dean barely moved a muscle, as the man didn't think twice to try and go for the door.

Selina's rather fun activity got interrupted when the man locked himself inside the bathroom.

"I'm not finished yet!" she shouted, pounding on the door.

"I'm not dying!"

"Oh, sweetheart, you are. If you don't open this door, I'll make sure you beg me to kill you. I'll break it open, you know I can. Be a good boy now."

Selina didn't give the man much of a choice. She grabbed the locked handle, and with a tug, the knob came off. She shoved the door open, and the man cowered in the bathtub. He stained the porcelain color with his blood. His cuts wept, as did he. Selina felt no sympathy for him. He wasn't even putting up a fight.

"Why?" the man blubbered. "I've done nothing wrong!"

"You're right, you haven't. You're just at the wrong place, at such a very wrong time."

The man screamed as Selina got into the tub with him. Tauntingly, she ran her red blade across his cheeks. He trembled, afraid to squeak out another sound.

"Don't play with your food!" Dean reminded her.

Selina scowled.

"You're—you're a cannibal?" the man sputtered.

Selina growled. "No, dummy, I'm not. I'm a demon, remember?"

"I didn't ask f-for this!"

"Oh, I know. None of us ever do." Selina cut the man's throat open. His life and blood spilled over his clothes, into the tub.

Selina had a few remnants of his blood on her when she climbed out. To see the corpse in the tub, it was rather...satisfying. Her body hummed with the thrill.

"Not bad for your first," said Dean. Selina turned to him. He actually looked impressed, though mildly. "Set it up like a suicide, clean yourself up, and then we'll book it out of here. What do you say?"

Selina didn't need to be told twice. Though she was no expert at staging suicides, between her and Dean, they made a decent job out of it. She wanted to imprint her first kill in her mind. Hell, she'd wished she had a photograph of it, just to be sure it really happened.

I don't know why I was afraid. Here, I'm free. Here, I'm feared. I can really make something of myself. And Dean will help me.

The two demons made a hasty retreat in their getaway car. The windows were rolled down, which only kept Selina feeling more alive than ever. More alive than when she had been human.

Truthfully, she couldn't recall much of her humans days. All those years of pain and torture made her block out everything pre-demon. Even if she were able to, she tried to not let the memories surface. Why should I call on old memories now? They won't help me here. She focused on the now. She was learning to be a demon, the right way. She was learning to make her mark, in both worlds.

And she had Dean Winchester, her original assignment, showing her the way.
