Bartolomeu Dias or spelled Bartholomew Dias is a famous Portuguese explorer who lived during the Great Age of Exploration and is a Portuguese nobleman of the royal household. He is the first European Mariner to round the Southern tip of Africa.
Bartolomeu was born in Algarve, Portugal in 1450 and he died in Cape Town, South Africa on 29th May at the age 50. Bartolomeu Dias had died after his ship was lost in a storm at the Cape of Good Hope and drowned.
He has 2 sons named António Dias de Novais and SimāoDias de Novais. His wife's name is Unknown. He was educated at the University of Lisbon.
