*James' POV*
I'm heading toward my favorite place. It's a nice, secluded clearing in the woods. Its several miles from the hiker trails so no one ever goes there. First I dropped my car off at my dad's and told him where I was heading.
"Rough day, J?" he asked, knowing I only went there when something was going on or when I wanted to think.
"Kind of. I'll be back before curfew," I said before giving him a hug.
I love my dad more than anything. When my mom left, it was hard for both of us. We don't even know where she went or why she left. We couldn't track her scent because she went on a boat. We haven't heard from her since I was 5, so it's been 12 years. I vaguely remember her but I do remember that we were a really close family.
The spot is close enough so I can walk to it. Or run. I thought with a smirk.
If you haven't guessed by now, I'm a werewolf. Well... part werewolf. My dad is a werewolf and my mom is a vampire. It's a common misconception that werewolves and vampires are enemies, but in reality, they're actually old allies, friends, and sometimes lovers.
I can shift into a werewolf, I can drink blood or eat regular human food (raw meat is my favorite), and I can run and move as fast as a vampire, but I'm not cold blooded like them and my eyes are a natural hazel color-they don't change with my thirst.
There are more of my kind all over the world. We like to call ourselves Hybrids. We are raised around humans so we can be just like them and we grow just like them and most of us don't harm them. There are a select few that do, though. They're called The Predators.
(A/N: that's not the last you'll hear about them.)
I walked into the woods and stood for a second controlling my thoughts and letting my wolf take over my body. Before I knew it I was on all fours. I shook my head so my thoughts could be clear and then I took off at full speed.
Being this fast and powerful are some of the perks of being a hybrid. Running through the forest at 100 mph and sometimes faster is exhilarating.
I reach the clearing in about 2 minutes and I sniff before walking out to make sure the coast is clear. When I don't smell any unusual scents I walk out and shift back to my human form. I go to a shady spot under a huge tree and sit against the trunk.
I love it out here where the sounds of the city aren't that loud and there is just the sound of nature.
My mind begins to wonder. I think about Alexis, my dad, my mom. My life is so crazy yet great at the same time. I'm trying to plan on when and how I'll tell Alexis what I am and that she's my mate. I sigh and shake my head.
"What's on your mind, pretty boy?" a familiar voice speaks.
I recognize it right away and grab a rock to throw at my best friend, Vince.
"Shut up, idiot." I say smiling a little.
He catches the rock right before it hits him and then he dropped it and cursed. "Damn, man. Almost broke my hand."
I laughed. "You know it couldn't have."
"That's true." he nodded.
Vince and I have been bestfriends since we were in diapers. We grew up together. His dad and my dad are like brothers. My dad is the alpha of our pack, The Natives, and Vince's dad is the beta.
"So what's up, man?" He sat down next to me.
I sighed and shook my head. "Just thinking," I paused and then said "I found my maye today."
"What??!! Dude that's awesome! Do you know what this means? You're going to be the alpha soon!"
I groaned. "Don't remind me."
He raised his eyebrow. "Aren't you excited?"
I shrugged. "I mean, I guess ai kind of am. But she's a human."
Vince let out a whistle. "Oh that's different. But it's happened before and they eventually become used to the idea. No worries." He nudged me and smiled.
I grinned a little. "I hope you're right. I don't want to scare her off, though."
"Don't sweat it. Everything's going to work out." He patted my back and I smiled.
"Thanks, man. But let's go. I've got to tell my dad."
I got up and Vince followed behind.
"Ohhh yeeaaaahhh! The Alpha dog! The Big Man! The OG!!." He said loudly which made me laugh.
This is guy is such an idiot, I thought to myself while laughing.
"Nigga, shut up."
"Yes, sir Mr.Alpha, sir."
We both laughed before shifting and racing back to my house. Here goes nothing.
