The fullness of time
Sprinting, trying to escape the world surrounding me. They're right on my heels. Their guns are now pointing at me. I can't escape. That's when I see it,
My noisy phone rung throughout the bedroom, I sprung from the sheets and tumbled off the bed. I take the phone and answer.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey, it's Jason."
"Ugh it's only seven in the morning! I was having a great dream until..." He cut in mid sentence,
"Um did you realise it's daylight savings today? Schools starting in five minutes." I hang up the phone and get ready, I presume the bus is already there so I bolt out the door. When I get outside it is pitch black and there is no sound of movement in the street. I struggle upstairs and check my alarm clock in my room it reads six thirty. I dial Jason's number into my retro phone.
"Hello Jason" I said in an annoyed tone. All I could hear was his answering machine. It was too early to be stressing about nothing, so I decided to hop back into bed.
I re woke to my boring (or as my mum would say 'soothing') alarm, re brushed my overly thick hair, had breakfast, made lunch and watched TV until I could see my school bus (it was a different bus again as our new original bus is getting 'fixed'.) through the white lace curtains covering our window. So I lock the door and jump on the bus.
When I see the East Windsor High School sign throughout the fog covered windows I get my bags ready so I can get off faster then everyone else.
When I get off the bus I see Jason's mousy brown hair swaying in the distance. I sprint to catch up to him, when I finally do I ask calmly 'What was up with this morning?'
'Oh, April Fools!' He joked. Then I totally remembered today was my birthday.
"Right I'm sixteen today." I replied.
"Nah your 103" He said sarcastically. We said bye and went our separate ways.
By the time I'm back in my own house I'm exhausted. Now I'm finally home I can sit down and...
"Surprise!" My geeky mum had to come and ruin my thoughts, "happy birthday sweetie."
"Thank you mum." I replied. Although mum can be a little unusual with her blond eighties styled hair and big brown eyes covered with oversized bulky glasses I love her deep down.
"Sweetie this year I've got a gift that your father would've given to you..." She says with a sterner tone then usual.
Dear Karla,
All will become clear in the fullness of time.
Love Mum xoxo
I've always want to know who dad is, but for some reason mum has never mentioned anything about him. EVER. Now wasn't an exception, she just passed me the small pink rectangular box. Inside was the prettiest necklace I had ever seen. I could see my long dark brown hair and brown eyes in the reflection of the silver pendant attached to the necklace. I told mum thank you (I skipped dinner because I wasn't that hungry) and went to bed as I had a slight headache.
As I lay in bed I slip my necklace on. Suddenly my vision starts to blur. It feels like I'm being sucked into another dimension but I don't know because I can't see straight. Finally I come to a halt in what seems to look like my street. But the bricks look like they have been redone recently and there is no doormat. I have gone blank: I'm so confused. How did I get here? I still can't seem to think so I step in the door. Inside is my house but it feels more spacious. Perhaps that's due too the fact that the bulky wooden shoe rack is missing. I'm speechless. Can people see me? I don't know so I walk up a familiar flight of stairs. My room looks very similar apart from everything has moved.
Then I discover I might be in the past. I see what looks to be my past self talking to what sounds like Jason on the phone. I say that going somewhere with mum and dad tonight. I hang up the phone then heads downstairs.
The present time me follows her footsteps. I figured past time humans can't see or hear me. When I get down stairs I see a strange man. He's tall with my colour hair. His big hands give the past me a hug. I'm bewildered could this be my dad? How come I don't remember any of this?
"We're going now." The strange man yells to what happens to be past mum.
"Yes get in the car Karla." Mum opens the door and everyone goes outside (including the present-day me).
When we get to our destination I see a huge banner on the door and everyone shouts surprise (obviously to the past me). My past self is so excited , hugging everyone (there is like 20 people). Two hours have past and we're all back in the car.
I can't do much in the past, I want to find out why I'm here.
That strange bald man is driving the car and I swear his big brown eyes are staring straight at me through the mirror.
Anyway I hear a loud bang! Our airbags come out and the car bursts out in flames! Mum tries to get me out but it looks like I hit my head on the seat. The strange man (he must be my dad) lifts me out and whispers to my mum "Goodbye Rose, remember too tell Karla I'm always there for her." Tears are streaming down my face. How could this have happened? Mum races out and carries me out. I watch dad burn to flames. I'm so depressed now, I wish I never saw this.
Soon enough the ambulance rush to the scene and take me to the hospital. The nurse tells mum I'm in a coma and I won't remember any event tonight. Mum is kneeling next to my bed and whispers in my ear "Dad is always there sweetie, remember that." I suddenly find myself spinning around; the events in my life surrounding me. Finally I come to a halt. I hear mum turning the lights off. I lay in my bed clutching my necklace and whisper "I love you dad," and fall asleep.
