A little girl ran down the street.  Her thick brown hair flew behind her as she leapt over a stick that blocked her way.   She pranced down the sidewalk like a princess, and then became a lion, roaring at invisible beasts.  This little girl had a huge imagination, and everyone knew it.  At school, she was constantly dazed, not paying attention to anything.   She always stared around, imagining her life in the future.  She wanted to be famous, but then, what little girl doesn’t?

While she pranced about the neighborhood, somebody was watching her.  That somebody’s name was Dan.  Dan was small for his age, and would probably always be that way.  But, he was good at something.  He was good at music.  Playing instruments came easily to him.  He appreciated the magic that came from a strum on the guitar, the smashing of symbols.

Dan saw her, and was intrigued.  He wondered how someone who was so alone could have so much fun.  That’s were he was wrong.  She wasn’t alone.  She had her imaginary friends, the voices in her head.  Essentially, she was insane.  But not as insane as her parents.  The little girls parents were in an asylum, too crazy to be trusted with a little girl.  She was raised by her grandparents.

Before Dan could stop himself, he was emerging from his room, walking down the steps, and out his front door.  He walked up to the little girl, with her pretty flowered dress and bare feet.   “Can I play with you?” he asked, surprised at his own courage.  The little girl looked up at the skinny boy with big brown eyes.

 “Are you a prince?”

“No.” he replied, thoroughly confused by this wisp of a person.

“You look like a prince.”  In her mind, everything she said made sense.  To her, it was other people that seemed crazy.

From that day on, the little girl, whose name was Mari, and Dan became the closest of friends.  They did everything they could together, even though she was two years younger.  When she was bullied, he would protect her.  That’s not to say he didn’t get bullied, either.  Dan was bullied constantly.  He was small for his age, and had slightly ginger hair.  He wasn’t generically handsome, either.

Mari had grown into a beautiful young woman.  Her hair was constantly unruly, frizzy and dark, but it seemed to fit her personality.  Her nose looked as if it had been broken a few times before, and her brown eyes had taken on a greenish tint.  She was still a little off, though.  Her grandparents thought she may grow out of it, and she had somewhat.  She still had her outbursts, though.

On this day, Mari tried to push her way through the crowds of people, trying to get to her favorite coffee shop.  She liked routine.  It helped.  Dan walked in front of her, helping to move the people who were walking in the opposite direction.  When they finally arrived at their destination, Dan’s band waited for them.  The boys waited in a booth for their friends to get there.

Mari sat down next to Tyler’s best friend Rachel, and commented on her shirt.  “I like that band.” she said, pointing to the words that said ‘AllStar Weekend.’

“Thanks!” Rachel replied, a smile on her face.

Tyler scanned Mari’s outfit, as he always did, and tried to keep from groaning at her poor choice of colors.  Dan gave him a look that said “If you say anything, I will bash your face in,” although he knew he couldn’t do that to the bigger boy if he tried.  Dan looked at what Mari was wearing.  He saw nothing wrong with it.  She liked bright and bold colors.  It was kind of her thing.  Today, she whore a neon green shirt, far from matching her bright blue jeans.  To top it all off, bright white sneakers adorned her feet.  She looked like a little girl had dressed her, which was partially true.  She thought like a little girl.

A loud chatter broke out the booth.  Mari spoke to Rachel, Cameron to Dan, everyone talking at the same time.  Laughing, talking, just having a good time.  People looked at them.  This coffee shop was a quiet place, well, while Hollywood Ending wasn’t there.  Paul, the boy who worked this shift approached them.  “Hey guys?  You’re making people leave.  I’m going to have to ask you to shut up, or get out.”

Cameron looked at the rest of his friends, willing them to keep straight faces until the barista walked back to his counter.  Then, they all broke out in laughter, stopping short when Paul shot them a look.  Rachel’s dimples made deep indents in her cheeks, and Mari’s eyes lit up with happiness.

At that moment, the door to the shop opened with force, and slammed with even more.  A tall and mean looking boy wearing a varsity hockey jacket stormed up to the booth that the tight knit group of friends was sitting at.

“Bitch!  Who said you could be here!  Especially with them!” He was clearly addressing Rachel, whose smile had completely disappeared, now replaced by a look of pure terror.  The boy grabbed Mari’s shoulders, throwing her out of the booth bench, to get at Rachel, whose arm he grabbed, dragging her out of the coffee shop.

One of the boys would have done something, if they hadn’t been totally shocked.  Who was he?  And why did he feel that he had authority to dictate Rachel’s life?!

Thanks for reading this guys!  This is just a sort of introduction. Sorry if it was a bit borig, I promise it'll get more exciting!  It’s different from the things I normally do…. So very different…. But, I’m trying stuff!  I’d love it if you would leave some feedback, good or bad. Tell me what you think!
