I Need You

“I need you Ciara!” Jai yelled across the room at me.

“But I can't do this anymore!” I sobbed and kicked the wall, my cheeks heavily stained with tears and mascara.

“Who gives a damn about what they say? They don't love you as much as me if they don't understand.” he spat, throwing his hands up, the salty drops of water running down his face too.

“Jai, they love me just as much as you and you know that, but that's the thing they just don't understand. I can't just...”

“Can't what? Can't, for once, make up your own mind and make your own damn choices?” he stormed, knocking the picture of my brother off of the end table, the frame skidding roughly across the oak floor.

“They're just looking out for me, I make my own choices Jai. It's just they're very protective.” I defended, brushing my hair from my eyes.

“Protective my ass. They're trying to run your life, Ciara.”

“Stop it Jai! I can't keep this up.” I breathed, slumping down the wall onto the floor, my head in my hands. “Just, leave...”

He wiped his tears angrily and left the room, heading out the front door, and slamming it hard behind him. I swore I heard the windows rattle as I sat on the floor, shoulders shaking for the sobs overtaking my body.

The room was in ruins with things scattered haphazardly across the room. The photo albums that had sat on the now, overturned coffee table, had burst open and the pictures lied across the ground, almost collage-like, making the scene a messy sight. I looked at the picture on the floor a few feet from me, Colton's army uniform decorated with a small ragged crack in the glass.

Colton had left for the military right after he got out secondary school and had been deployed for the last six months in the Middle East. If he were here, he would've convinced Mum and Dad that Jai wasn't bad, that I could handle my own life.

Thick tears fell on the floor as I pulled my legs up to my chest; I knew then, that I needed Jai too, I knew that he loved me more than anything, but I couldn't stand that my parents didn't approve. All caused by the fact they couldn't stand the family reputation or the chances of me marrying rich and powerful, float away. It was bullshit and selfish, but the constant pestering, the snooping, more importantly the fights and shouting matches with them were becoming unbearable. They were never like this with Colton, but they couldn't see that, their chances of being connected were at stake.

My phone buzzed in my back pocket, so I pulled it out see Mum's face smiling at me, signalling she was calling me. I launched my Blackberry across the room with grunt and ran my fingers through my blonde hair. I knew I probably needed Jai more than he needed me.

I didn't know what to do with myself, so I stayed there, crying into my knees for who knows how long until I heard the door knob spin and the front door open.

“Ciara, what happened?” my mother shrieked and dropped the paper grocery bags, interupting my thoughts.

They made their way into our interconnected kitchen and lounge from the entrance way, seeing the ruins of the whole area.

“What the hell do you think?" I spat.

“Do not talk to your mother in that tone, if she knew what happened, she wouldn't have asked. Answer the question Ciara." my father commanded, his deep voice trying to sound intimidating.
