Nightmares

You sit bolt upright, sweating horrifically.

You can hear a deafening scream, and hastily look around you, to see where the noise is coming from.

You don't realise that the source of the notice is you.

Your legs thrash about under the bed sheets and your hands claw through your sticky hair.

Your endless screams only last for a second or two, before he sits up beside you, concern and terror in his beautiful eyes.

Tom.

He grabs your arms and pulls you into his chest.

"Ssshh, sshh it's alright darling. It was only a dream. I'm here. It's me. I love you. It wasn't real. Just a dream. It's me. I love you" He repeats over and over, until you stop shaking.

You muzzle your face into his warm neck and breathe him in. He smells of chocolate and fresh roses. It makes you feel safer - being close to him.

His arms are firm yet soft, caressing your back. Your hands trail up his chest and over his shoulders, and your fingers make nest in his messy hair.

He pulls you back to look into you're eyes, and attempts a small smile.

"There. It's okay."
He kisses you very gently.
On your head.
On your cheek.
On your jawline.
On your lips.
"Go back to sleep."

Slowly, you lay back down, facing him, and he mirrors you. He slips his hand slowly around your back and pulls you closer to him, so your bodies are touching.

You suddenly feel awkward because your skimpy pyjamas are soaked through with sweat. But he seems unfazed.

You allow your eyes to close.

Images from the terror flood your mind again: His body. Cold. Empty. No smile. No spark in his eyes. Pale skin.

Your eyes snap open again.

He's watching you, and when you look up at him, his brow furrows with worry.

"Do you want to talk about the nightmare?"

"No."

"Do you want to go back to sleep?"

"No."

You manage to whisper the word twice before a lump forms in your throat and tears form riverbeds down your cheeks.

"Okay." He says.

"Okay." You say.
