Chapter XLIV. Mai's help

Meanwhile, after the duel between Yugi and Kaiba, the gang had all just gotten out of the castle. Yugi was just discouraged. 
"Yugi!" Joey tried to get Yugi's attention. 
"Come on, Yug." Tristan chimed in. 
"Why won't he answer us?" Tea asked, worriedly. 
"I've never seen him like this." Tristan said, confusedly. 
"He's totally out of it." Joey replied to Tristan in agreement. 
"Well, he did just lose his only chance to save his grandfather." Bakura replied to the guys. 
"Yeah, thanks to that asshole Kaiba playing God!" Jill chimed in, still a bit angry as she was a while ago when she angrily confronted Kaiba. 
Tea just looked at Yugi sadly as her tears were forming in her eyes, "Yugi, let us help you." 
Yugi didn't say anything, nor did he bother to  turn around to face the others. 
"Oh, we have to do something, Joey!" Tea suggested, urgently. 
"Yeah, alright. I'm going in." Joey nodded in agreement, before he walked towards Yugi with a friendly giggle. 
"It's okay, Yug. You just lost a few star chips is all. Here, take mine. I owe you big time for ever gettin' me this far. Take em." Joey suggested gently, as he offered Yugi the star chips. 
"But what about--" Bakura started, but Joey cut him off. 
"My sister? Sure, she needs my help, but gramps is in danger right now. We gotta get Yugi into the castle." Joey replied, firmly. 
"Please, Yugi." Tea pleaded, as she felt tears forming in her eyes. 
"Come on, pal, what do you say? Let's go kick Pegasus' sorry-butt and get your grandpa back. Go on, Yug. I want you to have em." Joey encouraged Yugi, but Yugi just refused to take the star chips. Joey was getting really pissed off, so he grabbed Yugi by the collar of his shirt. 
"Come on, snap out of it! You're really starting to scare me, man!" He snapped at Yugi, and just then, Tristan, Bakura, and Jill all ran over to Joey to make him let go of Yugi.  Jill quickly took out her gun from her pocket and furiously pointed it at Joey. 
"Joey Wheeler, put Yugi the fuck down now!" She demanded, but Joey just ignored her and continued ranting at Yugi. 
"I'm trying to help you out here. Pull yourself together!" 
"Take it easy, Joey!" Tristan eased. 
"He's right, cause I'll arrest you for whatever it is you're doing. Now put him down right now, or I swear to God I'll stun you!" Jill threatened darkly, but then... 
"Huh. If this is how you treat your friends, I can't wait to see you treat your enemies." Came Mai's voice, and everyone turned around to face her. 
"It's Mai!" Both Tea and Jill exclaimed at the same time. 
"What's up? If you guys have enough star chips to get into the castle, why are you hanging out here?" Mai asked the gang, slightly confused, as she eyed Joey's dueling glove that holds enough star chips. 
"It's Yug, he lost his chips to Kaiba and now it's like he's lost the will... to go on." Joey answered, which made Mai surprised. 
"So the little guy finally lost one, huh? Lucky for you guys, I came by." Mai assured the gang. 
"Yeah, good thing you came by, Mai." Jill smiled, as she put her gun back into her pocket. 
Mai smiled back at Jill, then her face became serious and she spoke firmly to Yugi, "Ok, listen up! Especially you, Yugi. You got beat, but that doesn't mean it's the end of the world. When I got beat, I thought it was all over for me too." 
With what Mai was saying, she held up her hand that carried star chips and continued, "But then Yugi stepped in and saved my star chips, and now I'm returning the favor." 
"No way!" Both Tea and Jill exclaimed together. 
"You said it." Tristan replied to the girls, in agreement. 
"Without those, you can't win the prize money." Joey spoke up, a bit concerned. 
"I'm being kind, not stupid." Mai replied, as she held up her dueling glove that held the ten star chips. 
Bakura was amazed, "Ah, she already has ten star chips of her own." 
"No wonder she's being so generous." Tristan observed. 
"Lay off." Joey smiled. 
"Now go on, Yugi. You know I owe you, so take them." Mai told Yugi, but Yugi just didn't bother to look up at her.
"Earth to Yugi! Star chips at 12:00!" Mai tried to get Yugi's attention, but Yugi still refused to look at her. 
"Go ahead and take Mai's star chips, and then we can all head up to the castle together." Joey smiled, but Yugi was still too discouraged. 
"What, are my star chips still not good enough for you?" Mai asked impatiently, before she took her star chips back. 
"Fine, then I'll keep them, and your friends can fight your nose all the way back to the nurse rate. Grow up! Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose!" She snapped, angrily. 
"Mai, don't get mad. You just don't understand." Tea stepped in. 
"Oh, I understand. Your friend lost one lousy duel and now he's too chicken to play again! Isn't that right?! How pathetic!" Mai fired back, which made the others surprised. 
"Come on, chicken-boy! Duel me for them, now!" Mai commanded, but Yugi just refused to move, and Mai was getting more impatient. 
"I'll duel you!" Tea suddenly stepped in, which made Mai surprised. 
"That's right, I'll duel you right here right now for Yugi!" Tea said in determination, which made the others surprised. 
"Tea?!" Jill exclaimed, in disbelief. 
Tea took out her cards, then she stated in determination, "You and me. Right here, right now! Yugi needs those star chips, and I'm going to win them for him!" 
"Come on, be serious! An amateur like you wouldn't stand a chance against me!" Mai rolled her eyes. 
"Would so." Tea persisted. 
"Honey, it's sweet you standing up for Yugi and all, but sweet doesn't win duels. Now I'll ask you one last time, are you sure you wanna duel me?" Mai asked, firmly. Tea slowly and nervously nodded her head in reply. 
"What do you think?" Joey asked Tristan, uneasily. 
"I think Yugi's in good hands." Tristan replied, nervously. 
"I sure hope you're right, buddy. Cause everything's ridin' on this one match." 
Just then, Jill took Tea's hand, which surprised Tea and she turned her head to face her with a questioning look on her face. Jill just stared at Tea firmly, then she suddenly spoke up. 
"Do it, Tea. Do it for Yugi, and especially..." She said firmly, before her face suddenly softened. 
"Especially for Lea." She finished softly, which made Tea surprised at what Jill said, then she nodded her head in agreement. She would surely do anything to duel for the people that she really loved the most. 

A/N: I'd just like to inform you all that the gun that Jill had and said that she will stun Joey... It's actually a gun that is inspired from both Star Trek and Star Wars. You know, the guns that switch from kill to stun.
