"Joey Wheeler, Bandit Keith, your peers, and gracious host, await your bout! So let this duel commence!" Croquet announced to everyone, before Joey and Keith began examining their cards.
'Ok, Joey, your sister's counting on you.' Yugi thought, intently.
Keith just chuckled and said, "So tell me how it feels to be an amateur going up against the intercontinental dueling champion."
"Ooh, the intercontinental championship! I could win a better prize than that in a box of cereal." Joey taunted, coolly.
Keith just scoffed, "Punk! I'll teach ya to respect my title. One card face down in defense mode."
Then the face down card began illuminating on the field.
"Here we go, guys!" Tea announced.
"Do you think that title gives Keith an edge?" Bakura inquired, before Jill shrugged in reply.
"Nah, Joey's got something a lot better than titles. He's got guts!" Tristan answered Bakura's question, confidently.
"And heart too!" Tea chimed in.
"Just remember what you're fighting for, Joey, and you can't lose!" Tea called out to Joey, firmly.
"Right! Now take it to him, bud, this is the moment you've been waiting for!" Tristan called out as well, which made Joey grin, then he turned to face Keith with a firm look on his face.
'Ok, then. It's time to go to work. Serenity, this duel's for you, sis.'
Then he spoke out loud and drew his card, "My turn, and I'm throwing a monster card in defense mode too."
"Well, this ain't gonna be a very exciting match if we're both just playing defense all day. So I think I'll switch my card to attack mode. Go, Pendulum Machine!" Keith summoned his monster, before it appeared on the field.
"A machine monster?!" Joey exclaimed, in disbelief.
"That's right, and he's about to go into overdrive on that defense card of yours." Keith taunted, before his monster just grabbed Joey's monster from the defense card.
"Slashing blade attack!" Keith commanded his monster, before it slashed the hell out of Joey's monster, destroying him for good!
"Ouch! That's not good!" Tristan exclaimed, angrily.
"Well, it isn't bad." Yugi replied, a bit calmly.
"Huh?" Tristan questioned, confusedly.
"Yugi is right! Now that Keith's card is set in attack mode, Joey can see precisely how strong it is! Now all he has to do is play something stronger, and he'll be able to destroy it!" Bakura explained to Tristan, observantly.
'Still, I wonder why Bandit Keith played a machine monster?' Yugi thought to himself.
"So, you gonna make your move, or what?" Keith asked, smugly.
"I sure am, and it's a big one. All thanks to your lousy move. Giltia the Knight, mash that machine into scrap metal!" Joey summoned his next monster, before he appeared on the field.
"Wow!" Both Bakura and Jill breathed, amazedly.
"Giltia the Knight has a higher attack power than Keith's monster!" Tea exclaimed, happily.
"Soul spear, attack!" Joey commanded his monster, before it went to attack Keith's monster, but nothing worked.
"What?! My attack's not working!" Joey exclaimed, in disbelief.
Both Tea and Jill gasped and Bakura said, "Great Scott! It's not!"
Even though Jill was still shocked that Joey's monster did nothing to destroy Keith's monster, she couldn't help but blush when she just heard Bakura say 'Great Scott'
"Yug, that can't be right. Can it?" Tristan asked Yugi in disbelief, before Keith just cackled.
"You bet it's right. All of my machine monsters are protected by magic resistant armor, so that makes all of your magic attacks worth squat." Keith taunted, before he laughed again.
"That's why he played a machine card. They're magic proof, and not just against magical type monsters, but they can withstand attacks from any card that uses magic." Yugi observed.
"Man! Can't we ever catch a break?!" Tristan yelled, a bit angrily.
"My turn!" Keith announced, which made Joey surprised.
"And I got another well-oiled machine all ready for ya. Launcher Spider!" Keith summoned his monster, before it appeared on the field.
"More machines? Just great!" Bakura exclaimed in disbelief, as Jill angrily balled her hand up into a fist.
"His whole deck is probably full of them!" Tea exclaimed as well.
"Now, Spider, shot rocket attack!" Keith commanded his monster, before it began throwing its rockets at the Knight!
"Come on, punk! Fight me back! It's more fun when you struggle." Keith taunted, before Joey's life points went down to 1650, and he was pissed.
'Man! I knew I'd get a rough match from Keith! But I wasn't prepared for these big metal bullies!' He thought, angrily.
"They're tough. True, still no machine is without its glitch." Bakura commented.
"So, what's with their glitch, Yugi?" Tea asked Yugi.
Yugi sighed and said, "I'm not sure. Machine monsters are some of the most powerful monsters in the dueling world. Not only are they impervious to magic attacks, but they have an amazingly strong offense as well. But they can only use that strong offense one way, against head on attacks. Maybe if Joey plays his cards right, he can use that to his advantage."
Joey just looked at his cards for a moment, and thought tensely, 'Hm, attacking those metal freaks will just get me clobbered.'
Then he spoke out loud, "So, I'll play this. Face down, and this monster card defense mode."
Keith just scoffed and said, "What's the matter, dweeb? Afraid to fight like a man?"
This just made Joey even more pissed!
'Hm, if this guy keeps throwing cards in defensive mode, I'll never get in his life points. I gotta draw him out. Get him to attack me, then I'll be open for some real damage.' Keith thought, before he laughed and placed his card facedown in front of himself.
"I'll lay a card facedown too, and this in defense--" Before Keith could say the rest, he accidentally dropped his card, and just then... The monster appeared to not be a machine type! Keith then quickly took the card away to not let anyone see his monster.
"My mistake. Just forget what you saw. And now as I was saying, I'll play this card in defense mode." Keith said nervously, before he summoned his monster in defense mode.
"Whatever that was, it sure looked ugly." Tea remarked, slightly annoyed.
"But not metal." Tristan replied.
"Exactly!" Jill exclaimed, in realization.
Joey just grinned and thought, 'Tristan's right! That card wasn't a machine, it was a shadow monster called Zoa. A beast my Flames Swordsman could toast easily. And unlike machine monsters, it's totally vulnerable to match it.'
"Yeah! Check out Joey's big grin! Something's up!" Tristan exclaimed, pumped as ever.
"I don't know." Yugi sighed.
"Huh, know what?" Tristan asked, confusedly.
Then Joey placed his Flame Swordsman card down in front of himself and summoned it, "Go, Flame Swordsman! In attack mode!"
Then Flame Swordsman appearedon the field.
"The attack points of that Zoa card Keith dropped. They're higher than its defense." Yugi answered Tristan's question.
"So what?" Tea questioned.
Then it hit Bakura!
"Oh, I see!" He exclaimed, in realization.
"And I'll add this magic card too." Joey announced, as he held up his magic card.
"Since Zoa's attack is more than its defense, it makes little sense to play him in defensive mode. Unless Keith is trying to lure Joey into attacking him." Bakura observed.
Then Joey placed his magic card down in front of himself, "Go, Salamandra! His magic raises my attack power by 700 points!"
"So then Keith must have shown Zoa on purpose!" Tea exclaimed.
"Right! Just so he can con Joey!" Jill replied, in agreement.
"Joey, wait!" Tristan called out to Joey, but Joey ignored him.
"Swordsman, attack!" Joey commanded his monster, before it went to attack, but then...
"I got ya! My trap activates." Keith taunted, which made Joey surprised.
"Go, Magic Metal Force! Now Zoa is metal Zoa. 400 attack and defense points stronger." Keith stated, smugly.
"Aah, no big thing!" Joey scoffed.
"But that's not all, blondie. That new metallic paint job he's sportin' deflects all magic attacks back to where they came from." Keith taunted, which made Joey surprised.
"My swordsman!" He exclaimed, in disbelief.
"That's right. Just watch this!" Keith taunted again, as the fire landed on one of Keith's machine monster, but it wasn't injured and so the fire just came back to the Flame Swordsman!
"No!" Joey exclaimed, before the fire landed on the Flame Swordsman, destroying it for good!
'My Swordsman's been outmaneuvered!' Joey thought, as his life points went down to 1150.
