Chapter 2

I was eight years old when I first met her. It was the first day of school after a long and relaxing summer vacation.

"Promise you'll be careful," mom said, she was always nervous on the first day of a new school year.

"I promise," I said trying to calm her down.

"I love you sweetie."

"I love you too mom," I said starting to walk towards the school.

I understood why she was nervous. Last year people hadn't been very nice to me, I had told mom and she had spoken to the principal. The principal had spoken to my class telling us he did not want to see any bullying and he wanted to see a change in how we treated each other.

After that, there had been change. The people who had been mean to me stopped being mean in public and started to be mean in other ways, when no one saw. I had decided not to tell mom about this. I just told her everything was better now so she wouldn't worry.

I walked into the classroom and instantly felt a strong pain inside of me.

Someone was fighting death.

I tried to hide the pain I was feeling, but just as the teacher walked into the classroom it became too much. I stood up and ran out of the classroom to the toilets, I didn't want my classmates to see me cry. As I ran away I could hear the class laugh behind me at the weird kid who randomly ran out of class.

The bathroom was empty, so I just say down on the floor and cried. The pain usually lasted during 1-5 minutes and all I could do was wait. Dad had said in the letter that it got better if I found a distraction, but I hadn't found one.

After about 6 minutes, the pain still hadn't stopped, though it was a tiny bit better. I decided to go back to class before the teacher got mad, but just as I walked out of the boy's bathroom the door to the girl's bathroom opened and a small girl came out. The second I saw the girl the pain stopped, weird. The pain usually got better and better, it had never stopped instantly like this before.

I looked at the girl and she was beautiful! She had very pretty blonde hair that barely reached to her shoulders. Her eyes were big and innocent and they had a clear green color. As I looked closer at her eyes I also saw that they were full of tears.

"What are you doing here?" she asked me with a small voice, wiping the tears of her cheeks.

"The same as you," I answered, giving her a small, but kind smile.

"You've been crying too?" she asked looking at me with her beautiful eyes.

I nodded.

"Why?"

"Because I was sad," I lied.

I did not like lying, but my father had told me I couldn't tell anyone about the whole Death thing.

"Why did you cry?" I asked her.

"Because I was sad," she said, just like me. "I'm new here, it's my first day. I don't have any friends and I'm not good at making new friends."

"Me neither," I said with a sad smile. "Maybe we can be friends?"

"I would love that!" She said with a bright smile!

"Great! I'm Marcus," I said, smiling back at her. "What's your name?"

"I'm Lily."
