1 MONTH LATER
Dylan's POV"You guys promise to call us, right?" Mama questions me and Corey as we put our bags in the Uber.
"Yeah, Mama" I answer.
"And you'll be good for the Hernandez's right?" She also questions running her hand through my hair.
"Mama" I say trying to get her to relax.
"And you guys are...
"MOMMY, MAMA'S PANICKING AGAIN!" My sister shouts out to our mom.
"Ali, let them leave" mom says through her laughs. "They know what to do and they're only staying for one day" she also states.
"Yeah mama stop worrying" Corey comments making both of them smile at her.
Over the last past month we were contacted by our biological fathers brother Diego and his wife Zuly.
Apparently we're part Dominican.
Afro-Dominican if you really want to specify it all.
Anyway we've been talking and sometimes visiting each other but today is the first time we'll be spending the night with them.
Diego's mother which happens to be our grandmother just passed away so we're staying over his place for the funeral.
Diego is nice and we both like him.
I think I could get used to having him around.
"We have to go, mama" I remind her as she smothers us both in her love.
"Okay Ali" mom laughs pulling her off of us. "I'll see you guys later" she says giving us a quick hug and allowing us to get in the car. "Love you, buckle up" our mother calls out right before us responding and driving away from the house.
"Are you nervous?" Corey asks me while her leg bounces up and down.
"A little" I answer being as though we're about to meet our biological fathers family. "It's nothing we can't handle" I reply giving off a smile to my sister.
...
Corey's POVPulling up to the house after the two and a half hour drive we had to take from Rosewood to New York we finally arrive at the house where our uncle Diego and his wife Zuly are waiting.
"Heyyy" Diego claps his hands rushing over to the car to open the door for us and grab our bags.
"Hey" both me and Dylan respond together.
"How was the ride?" He questions us while transferring our bags from the car and into the house.
"Long" I answer as Zuly puts her hand on my head to feel my hair.
"I'm so in love with these curls" she declares making me smile. "You have your grandmothers curls" she puts on a forced smile being as though the elder woman is no longer living now.
"Hell yeah she does" my uncle laughs. "Curls run in the Hernandez family" he states making us laugh.
"C'mon there's food in the house, you guys must be starving" his wife starts back up as we follow her.
"Tons of food" Diego cuts in again. "But if you see an old guy with a cane and silver hair reaching for the tostones on your plate just cut him off and smack his hand like this" he jokes while demonstrating.
