(P/N)- Princess's Name (Add in the name of your rival??? I honestly just can't think of generic names XD)

(D/N)- Duchess's Name (Same deal)

The kingdom was frantic for the past few days, apparently a neighboring kingdom would be visiting and staying with the royal family for a few days. There was going to be another ball, and you wondered if Calum was going to invite you. You shook that thought away, you didn't want to sound spoiled and make him take you. Calum didn't visit that day, nor the day after, and you just assumed that it was his royal duties that prevented him to visit. You continued your work as usual making the breads and baked sweets until your father told you to make a run into town to get some eggs, butter, and sugar that the bakery was running low on. You gathered your things and headed into town to visit the markets that could provide your family with what you needed. "(Y/N) you are traveling alone today? Don't you usually have that friend that is stuck to your side?" the shop owner asks. "Ah, he's been busy, he can't visit me all the time," you said with a flustered tone. Flustered? Since when were you ever flustered talking about Calum? "Between you and me I think he really likes you (Y/N)," she says with an excited smile. "W-what? No, that can't be," you said dismissing the idea. "It could be true, I mean, why else would a boy like him continue to visit you even though you said he's busy. No boy just gets out of his work that easily," she says and nudges you. You felt a blush form on your face and let her words sink in. You made your way to get a few pounds of sugar just down the street and thought of what the shop owner said. Since the day you've met Calum, it was clear that he was a prince with a lot of responsibilities, but he would visit you on a daily basis. He would sneak out of the castle and act like it wasn't a big deal. When you visited the castle, it looked heavily guarded and difficult to just simply sneak out. "It's just like him to be reckless, it doesn't mean a thing," you mumbled to yourself but thought of the day he was getting worked up over the new worker at the bakery. "It wasn't jealousy, he was just being childish..." you tried convincing to yourself again. You watched as the shop owner measured sugar on a scale and carefully bag it for you. "You look troubled (Y/N)," the shop owner says while stuffing the sugar into a bag. "I'm just trying to figure out something...It's something the egg shop owner said," you mumbled. "Gossiping about love again? That is very much like her to do so, however, she is never wrong when she points it out," he says before sealing up the bag. "What?" "The old lady, her random pairings are never wrong. To tell you the truth, when I was a young lad, she told me that me and the woman who owned the flower shop across from my store would be a cute couple and that she fancied me for quite a while. Now look at me, I'm married to her," he explained and looked out the window to see the flower shop and his wife tending to costumers. "She's never wrong?" you questioned. "Not even once," he insists before putting the heavy sack of sugar into a small wagon for you to pull around easily. "How do you know if you are really in love?" you asked before heading out of the store. "You find yourself smiling when they are around, you think about them when they are gone from your side, and your heart hurts if they are with someone else," he says, and you gave it a thought. You thank the shop owner and headed to get butter before walking back to the bakery. On your way back, you saw a small commotion in the middle of town and saw two fancy dressed nobles. You took a closer look and noticed that one of them was Calum. You were so used to seeing him in village clothing and seeing him dressed like a prince made you feel weak. You took a closer look to see an elegantly dressed girl clinging to his arm and smiling over his charm. "Prince Calum, this village of yours is wonderful." "I'm glad you think that Princess," he says politely. "I'll do my best to be a wonderful queen to you," she says. "Everyone, I'm sorry, please step away from Prince Calum and Princess (P/N), please step away from the carriage, we must get moving," the driver says before opening the carriage for the prince and princess. It took a while for people to move aside, you were stuck frozen trying to process the gossip you were hearing. "The prince is getting married." "He's in an arranged marriage with a princess of the neighboring kingdom." "They look so in love." "What an elegant princess." You felt the basket of eggs slip from your hands and quickly picked the basket back up. You didn't care if some of the eggs were broken, you just hurried back to the bakery as soon as possible. When you got home, you stopped to see the two royals standing in the middle of the shop. Seeing Calum and the Princess up close made your heart feel tight and your stomach turn. "(Y/N) there you are, you should hurry to the kitchen, the Prince wanted marble cake. What? Oh no, the eggs are broken (Y/N) what happened?" your father asks, but the words wouldn't come out of your mouth. You were moved to the kitchen and told to make the cakes as soon as possible, and you tried your best to. You kept fumbling with the equipment and making a huge mess. You added the wrong ingredients at the wrong time, and the intern baker insisted that he would take care of the cakes. You exited out the kitchen through the back door and took deep breaths. Did Calum make you smile whenever he was around? Check. Did you think about him when he was gone? Check. Does your heart hurt when he was with someone else? Check. You were in love with Calum, and there was no more denying it. "(Y/N)?" Calum calls out exiting through the back like you did. "Are you okay? You're crying. Listen, I'm sorry I didn't visit, it was hard to sneak out, and I was busy showing the princess around...W-Why are you crying?" he questions again. "I-I'm just so happy for you Prince Calum...She's a lovely princess," you said with your voice cracking slightly. Calum fell silent knowing that in his position he couldn't comfort you. He was in prince mode, he couldn't just hold you so casually as before. The two of you were silent until he decided to take leave first to avoid suspicion.
