Playing With Fire : Andy Strucker

REstless

I was currently resting in bed, watching the news. It was already well late into the night but I couldn't sleep.

My mind was rewinding to what had happened earlier. I was in the main hall with Lorna and the Frost Sisters when Andy and Rebecca came back from their outing.

As they were making their way towards us, I could see that something had happened. Something between both Andy and Rebecca. She was like a totally different person from the first time I met her within the same day.

"How was your little outing?" Lorna asked nonchalantly. She told me of how she initially disapproved of Andy bringing Rebecca out so soon. I told her of my similar opinions, and we just gave each other a knowing look.

"It was great, we had fun." Andy replied, first with a smile. As he turned his glance towards me, the smile disappears and was replaced with him looking down on the floor. It was like he was avoiding eye contact with me.

"We can see that."

"You're practically glowing."

"A whole new you."

The sisters added on almost smugly. Glowing? I thought bewilderedly.

"I'm starting to feel like myself again." Rebecca responded with a smile.

"So what's this big mission?" She added on with confidence. Andy looked over with a satisfied smile. An uneasy feeling started to settle within me.

Mission? Mission?! She barely joined us for a day and she was already assigned to a mission?
This was ridiculous. I have been with the Inner Circle for almost four months now and I haven't come close to being a part of anything.

Esme proposed that Rebecca should be able to participate in the evaluation of her powers. I was curious to know what her powers were so I decided to join the rest in the viewing room to watch.

A vault was brought into the training room as part of the setup. Rebecca came in dressed in an all black training attire and stopped in front of the vault.

She raised her hands and made contorted movements with her fingers like she was twisting something. Rebecca let out a scream as she released a force of powers.

The result took everyone by amazement as the vault was twisted inside out. So that's her power....Andy once again showed a satisfied smile over to the Frost sisters. I caught Lorna's expression behind Andy's shoulder and saw that she had an almost worried look.

She caught me glancing at her and she gave me another knowing look. It was as if we might be on some sort of similar page regarding to the new addition to the team.

I couldn't exactly explain what I am feeling but I guessed that there was a little resentment building inside of me, knowing that she was going to join in on the upcoming mission. On the other hand, I would not know if I am playing a part yet.

I turned to Andy and he gave me a small smile but unlike before, he didn't avoid eye contact. I forced myself to return a smile as well.

I later then found out from Andy that Rebecca initially felt nervous and wary to get her powers evaluated. She was still tramautised from her experience at the hospital and was still warming up.

With Andy's help , she was slowly gaining trust with the team and the new environment. For a moment, I could empathize with her. I also went through a similar experience when I first arrived and was adjusting.

I was about to turn off the television and decided to call it a night in my room when something caught my eye. The news reported of uprisings from mutants as a result of an infiltration on a mutant hospital to release the patients.
