“We heard you guys got shot at!” someone yelled as I walked into Candyland after lunch, two days after the “Inter-team Team Building” incident.
I looked over at the small table pushed in the corner and, when I saw Ian sitting there, I raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, we did.”
Ian grinned, “Did you really get them to stop?” he asked. “Did you really knock them all out?”
I shook my head, “Alexis helped,” I said. “And it was pretty much Seth’s idea.”
Ian rolled his eyes, “So you knocked them out?” he said as Jack walked into the room with Kara Nicole.
“Hey Ash,” Jack said with a grin. Kara looked up at me and smiled before she ran over to me, “Whoa, Kare Bear,” Jack watched in confusion as Kara hugged me tightly. “I didn’t know you knew Ash.”
I hid my shock as I rested my hands on Kara’s back, like I used to do to Evan when he was smaller, “We’ve only met once,” I said before I looked down at Kara. “Hey kid. What’s going on?”
Kara looked up at me through her messy red hair and smiled, “Kara, what’s going on?” Ian asked. “Did you see something?”
Kara shrugged as she pulled away from me and grabbed her whiteboard, ‘Felt.’ she wrote. ‘Happy. Like family.’
Jack raised an eyebrow, “Felt from who?” he asked.
Kara shook her head, ‘Not now. Soon.’ she wrote. ‘I saw I and C with her. Just that.’
Jack chuckled, “Of course you did.”
Kara nudged Ian and they both studied me for a minute, “That’s interesting…” Ian said.
Jack turned, “Ian…”
Ian smiled at Jack before he and Kara grabbed my arms, “Come on,” Ian said to me.
“Ian, where are you taking Ash?” Jack asked as I looked back at him in confusion.
“To our room,” Ian said. “We’re going to build a fort.”
Kara nodded and Jack raised an eyebrow, “A fort in the rec room?”
“Yeah, tell dad where we are,” Ian said.
“And tell Taven I’ve been kidnapped by the munchkins,” I said as Ian and Kara pulled me out of Candyland.
