【CHAPTER FIVE】

Sara tried her best to hide the fact that she had been here only a few hours earlier than Natasha. Fury had some big idea to send one of his most talented agents in with an eighteen year old girl who had only been introduced to this whole superhero business a few days ago. In the back of her mind, she wondered if perhaps they had seen her entire interaction with Loki and were purposely sending her in with Natasha. Did they think she was a weakness of his or something?
Loki paced in his cell, a carefully blank look on his face as he kept his back mostly faced away from them. Both Sara and Natasha walked up behind him, he stiffened, obviously sensing them now, and slowly turned on his heels to face them.
His eyes were blue. It was the first thing Sara noticed about him. His eyes were that sickly, unnerving blue that made the hair on her arms stand on end, the same blue that made a chill run down her spine. Other than the blue, there was a sickening feeling of pain just rolling off of him in waves that made Sara unable to hold back her wince. He was also paler than before, a sickly pale now with a sheet of sweat shining on his skin. How had he gotten worse? And why did nobody realize the difference?
"Hmm," Loki hummed, eyeing the both of them carefully. "There's not many people that can sneak up on me."
"But you figured I'd come," Natasha guessed. She held herself much better than Sara did. She was relaxed, showing Loki that she was in charge and was not afraid of him from the cell. Her shoulders were slightly pushed back and head tilted to the side as if she was examining some animal at the zoo.
"After," Loki admitted. "After whatever tortures Fury can concoct, you would appear as a friend, as a balm. And I would cooperate."
Sara was stiff. Her hands were clasped together in front of her and her fingers squeezed each other tightly, her knuckles whitening slightly. "What did you do to Agent Barton?" Loki sluggishly turned his head from Natasha to her. Sara had to forcefully keep herself from shivering in disgust.
"You don't care about what happened to him," Loki said harshly, his face unkind and uncaring. "You fool yourself into thinking you are selfless in the most selfish way possible. You aren't kind to be kind, you're kind to make you feel better about yourself." Sara flinched, squeezed her fingers together, but refused to look away. He was just trying to intimidate her, trying to make her upset. He turned back to Natasha. "I'd say I've expanded his mind."
"And once you've won," Natasha urged. "Once you're king of the mountain. What happens to his mind?"
"Is this love, Agent Romanoff?" Loki mocked. A horrible sneer appeared on his mouth. His perfect teeth was an odd contrast of just how rotten this man was. How could someone so beautiful have such an ugly soul?
"Love is for children," Natasha told him. "I owe him a debt."
"Tell me," Loki urged, taking a slow step forward.
