I was only 8 years old when my Mom told me stories that my grandma used to tell her when she was younger. Every time it was about some magical fairy and for an 8 year old, I basically knew for a fact that Santa Clause and the tooth fairy weren't real; so why should I believe her stories? "She put her in a box because your grandma knew that she couldn't last too long in the human world." I squinted my eyes at her as my fingers were gripping onto my blanket. "Really Mommy?" I said with sarcasm in my voice.
"What?" She asked with confusion in her eyes. "You and I both know none of this is true at this point. Like do you think I would actually believe that Grandma saved a falling fairy that came from a shooting star and basically raised her until the fairy couldn't stay too long in the human world so grandma put her in a snow globe inside a box?" She wagged her finger back and forth while clicking her tongue. "Don't believe it? I've seen it myself!" She says. "Well that doesn't mean I believe it. I won't believe it until I see it." I stated.
She smirked and told me she'll be right back only to return with a box that had a key hole and two keys in her hand. I watched her intensively as she blew the dust off and searched for one of the keys that unlocked the box. When the box was finally opened, the snow globe inside sparkled even if the globe was covered in dust. I looked at it in awe as she held the globe in her hands for me to look more clearly. "Where's the fairy?" I asked and she sets the globe back into the box. "You won't be able to see her because she'll become sick if you let her out," She then slammed the box shut which startled me. "So don't ever open the box." My Mom warns me.
"Then how do I know that it's not just a normal globe?" I asked. "It sparkles." She says while locking the box back up. "Ok but that could've been glitter." She shrugs and pats my shoulder. "You'll believe one day Jungkook. Now go to sleep and I'll see you in the morning." My Mom tucks me in without forgetting to end the night with her loving kisses. "Tell Daddy I said good night when he gets home." I remind her and she nods before closing the door.
11 years later
"Happy birthday to you." Everyone finished the song before letting me blow out my candles. My bestfriends Jimin and Taehyung pushed my head onto the cake and they laughed while running away before I could do anything to them. My Mom gives me a hug and wipes off some of the cake that was on my face with a towel she had in her hand. Unfortunately, my white T-shirt was stained with red frosting. "My boy!" My Dad yells while hugging me very..very tightly. "Dad..can't...breathe..." I let out a sigh of relief when he let go. "You've grown into a man!" He says as he pats my back making me jerk forward with his heavy, steel-like hands.
"Thanks Dad." I said and tried to pat him as hard as he did, but I knew he was much stronger than me. "Now for the surprise!" Taehyung says while handing me a bag. Inside was a gucci hat and white T-shirt that had my name on it. "Thank you Tae." I said as I hugged him, then returning back to Jimin's gift. He gave me a ring that had my initials on it and I put it on my thumb before giving him a hug. "It looks really nice and it fits perfectly." Jimin smiled before rubbing my head.
My parents didn't buy me anything since I told them not to and that I just want to spend a night because I missed the place since I've been in college so much and haven't been able to visit.
When the day came to an end, Taehyung and Jimin were staying a night as well but they were going to sleep in the living room because they fell asleep while watching a movie which I had to turn the TV off. It was getting really late and I wasn't tired at all. Instead I was looking around the house that held so many memories. The good ones and the bad ones.
I walked around until I stopped and looked at the basement door. A thought suddenly popped into my head and I sneakily entered the basement and turned on the light. Looking around for the specific box, I spotted it and quickly looked around for the keys. There was a wall that held keys and I scanned through before stopping at the familiar keys that were held onto one chain.
I didn't hesitate to unlock the box and stare at the dusty, sparkly snow glove. The other key on the chain was to this snow globe, and to answer all my curiosities, I unlocked the snow globe and opened the glass while looking around for the 'fairy'. Before I could scoff at myself for actually believing it, a bright light bounced out and onto the walls of the basement and I gasped while watching the light move fast and landing behind a tall box.
Getting up from the floor, I walked to the spark and my eyes widened at the sight. A girl with long, wavy brown hair was in a white silky dress that had flowers all over it. Behind her was glowing chipped wings that twitched as she began to move. Backing up, I watched as her eyes were opening and leaving me in awe at her beautiful emerald green eyes. She observed the basement and finally spotted me peeking behind the box while she tilts her head. "Who are you?" She asks which made my heart beat faster than it already was. Her voice was very angel-like. "I-I'm Jungkook." I said while taking deep breaths.
"Jungkook? Why are you here? Where's Mrs. Jeon?" She asks. "Mrs. Jeon is my grandma a-and I'm her grandson. I can't believe you're real." I said and she just smiles which I just noticed she has dimples. "She's a grandma now?" She says with so much joy in her voice. "I must've been inside that globe for a really long time." She giggled and tried to stand up but she fell and giggled again. She wasn't tiny, but she was shorter than me. "Oops." She says and I held my hand out to help her. "Thank you." She says and almost loses her balance but I caught her just in time.
I looked into her innocent green eyes as she stared right back at me. "You have the most beautiful eyes." She says and I chuckled. "I can say the same." I replied and she lifts herself up. "You have to take me to your grandma. I really miss her." I almost scream when she mentions about seeing my grandma when my Mom told me to never let the fairy out and I did exactly what she told me not to do. "I-I don't think that's a good idea. I mean she's been really busy lately." She gasped. "Oh. Well I think she'll feel much better if we visit her because she's been working so hard-"
I cut her off because who knows how long this fairy can take the human world. "It's better if you went back in the globe-" She playfully hits my arm. "Don't be silly! I've been in there for a long time and I get kind of lonely too. W-" Suddenly the sound of my Moms voice averts our attention to the basement door. "Jungkook? Is that you in the basement?" The door suddenly opens and I stood there frozen, trying to think of where to hide the fairy. It was too late when my Mom walked in but she looked at me and I waited for her to scream but she didn't.
Instead I opened my eyes to see that the fairy was gone and my Mom was standing at the door way in her robe. "What are you doing down here?" My mom asks. "I-I was just looking around. I couldn't sleep." She chuckles and grabs my hand out of the basement. "You probably need to be tucked in like the good old days." She says and I let out a nervous laugh. "I'm not a kid anymore." I told her and she laughs. "No but you're still my baby in my eyes." She says and brings me to my room. "Try to get some sleep ok?" I nodded and she kisses my forehead like she always did when I was a kid.
Right when she left, I began to panic. "Fairy?" I looked around, hoping I wasn't going crazy when the fairy appeared. Suddenly a light was flashing in the pocket of my hoodie and I look inside to see the fairy only this time she was the size of my pinky. "Was that your Mother?" She asks and I nod. "She reminds me so much of Mrs. Jeon." She says while hopping out of my pocket, onto my dresser. She skipped and looked at my dinosaur and iron man collection. "You don't have to call me fairy you know. My real name is Hee Jung." She says while leaning against my toy car.
"Hee jung." I let her name roll off my tongue like it were some kind of foreign language. She yawned and I went to grab her something she could sleep on but she hopped to my bed and slept on one of my pillows. I watched as her eyes closed and she fell into a deep sleep.
Everything felt surreal and I can't believe that the stories my Mom had been telling me all these years were true. If that means all the things she said are true, am I putting Hee Jung in danger?
