The hum and whirring of the machine's engine dulled as the Eligius ship docked upon the new planet.
Cautious yet eager, the last survivors of earth flooded out of the ship, half of them stumbling over their own feet, drowsy from their cryo hibernation.
Raven had landed the ship on a flat field in an otherwise mountainous region, where plush green grass dominated the area. It was a refreshing change from the wasteland that they had left behind, Clarke thought.
Vast and endless, the open expanse was paradise. The sight of nature's glory ignited the same feeling she had felt the first time her and the 100 had landed on earth, that ecstasy mixed with the slightest fear.
Glancing up, Clarke extended her right hand to shield the twin glare created by the two suns now shining unapologetically in the endless blue sky.
A binary star system--that's what Monty had called it. Two suns in the sky.
If she were honest with herself, Clarke already knew what it was to have two suns in her sky. The first had been Lexa. The second, her daughter, Madi.
As if summoned by Clarke's own thoughts, Madi appeared, donning her commander armour. Try as she might to smile at her child, Clarke found herself too distracted, instead studying the details of the young commander's face.
Her heart lurched as she took in the loving yet determined glint in her eyes, the slightly up-tilted chin, the obvious air of authority. She was undeniably a leader. Madi was born for this.
Just as Clarke was. Just as Lexa had been.
"I'm going to lead a scouting mission with a handful of Wonkru warriors. We need to establish a safe perimeter where we can set up camp for the night." Indeed, the suns were fading beyond the rolling hills, casting a pinkish hue on the land. Darkness would fall soon, and who knew what monsters may be hiding in the shadows.
Despite Clarke's instinct to simply tell her no, that it was too unsafe, she knew it would do no good. Madi was commander, and therefore bound by duty to undertake responsibilities like this.
That didn't mean Clarke had to like it, though.
Taking a deep breath of fresh, uncontaminated air into her lungs, Clarke summoned up a sorry excuse of a smile. "Okay. But take Echo and Bellamy with you, and be back within the hour."
Madi furrowed her brows at the order, yet Clarke placed a gentle hand on the girl's arm as she planted a swift kiss on her forehead. "Be safe."
The commander nodded, turning around to locate Bellamy and Echo, who had positioned themselves near Octavia, undoubtedly keeping watch of the slightly unhinged fallen leader.
As Madi strode off towards them, Clarkes vision snagged on that faint scar marring the back of her neck. An almost identical scar had marked Lexa's neck, only hers had been somewhat covered by a tattoo of the sacred symbol.
It was times like this when she truly missed her love. When she craved her company so much that the mere thought of her voice, her face, was enough to bring tears to Clarke's eyes.
The sound of guns clicking had Clarke whipping her head around. One by one, people were raising their firearms, the grounders wielding their spears and blades.
Clarke spotted Madi at the front of the gathered group where she was flanked by Bellamy and Echo, safe and unharmed, and released a sigh before rushing over.
What Clarke also saw, though, was a pristine white hovercraft approaching with impressive speed.
Clarke's heart froze in in her chest.
