I wipe my clammy hands on my slacks, trying to get rid of the perspiration before gripping my résumé tightly in my hands. This job interview is pretty important. It's for a position in a major company that dabbles in a bit of everything. And the pay is rather large. I definitely need that.
I'm more than qualified for this personal secretary position. I've been a secretary a few times for other people, I've even been a personal assistant to a few. Not to mention my uni degrees in business, finance and computer science. Usually I'm not this nervous for job interviews but this position is for a much more powerful man that any of my past jobs.
It's a job interview to be the personal secretary of Lucius Silverton, CEO of Silverton Corp., one of the largest companies involved in, well everything.
And Lucius Silverton is the one conducting the interviews. My eyes dart up as another flustered looking woman practically stumbles out of the office. I then divert my attention to the plasma on the wall. Since the interviews started, names have been appearing on the screen when it's time for theirs. Fucking dramatic right? The screen comes on and a name flashes across it.
Layla Lawson
Looks like I'm up. I take a deep breath before I stand up, tugging my black blazer down, hoping it covers my voluptuous frame. As I walk towards the office, I ignore the glares of the other women there and remind myself how to act. Try suppress my clumsy side. Do not swear. Suppress my anger issues and violent side. And don't be a sarcastic little shi- person.
I knock on the door with a firm nod of my head. I can blimmen do this. A deep voice calls for me to come in. Plastering a bright smile on my face, I push the doors open and walk in.
"Good afternoon sir, I'm Lay-" He interrupts me without even looking up.
"Sit."
My eye twitches slightly at his rudeness but follow his orders, gracefully folding myself onto the chair. With my smile still in place, I hold my head up high waiting for him to say something. The only sound in the room is the tapping of his keyboard. After thirty seconds go by I decide to speak up.
"I believe I have more than suff-"
"Shut up."
I feel my temper rising at once again being cut off. How dare he! I wish I could believe this is just a bad day but I feel like he's just an insufferable asshole naturally. Unfortunately for me, this asshole needs a well paid secretary and I am the idiot who needs that position. I bite my tongue and put a fake smile on my face.
"Sorry sir. Just how long should I shut up for?"
"Shut. Up." My jaw clenches as my anger rises.
"I would prefer if you didn't waste my time, thank you very much. Either interview me or I will be leaving."
Dreads dawns on me. I shouldn't have been so snappy. But in all honesty, I really will leave if he doesn't say anything. He doesn't even lift his head up to look at me. This whole time, not even a glance. That's just plain rude.
Letting a soft scoff out of my mouth, I shake my head and push myself off the leather seat."I've had a wonderful time, really. But I'm afraid I have to take my leave. Thank you for your rapt attention and I'm very sorry for wasting your time."
"Sit."I'm only a step away when I hear his voice. I freeze for a second, not believing what I just heard. Did he really just order me around again? What the hell is he thinking? Whipping around, the words leave my mouth before I'm even facing him.
"Are you fucking serious?"
My glare drops and my eyes widen as I realise he is actually looking at me. His gaze runs down my figure and back up until he meets my eyes. I feel uncomfortable with his intense gaze on me but I do not back down, returning his stare just as fiercely.
"Yes, I am. I..." His gaze slowly sweeps down my body once again, before coming back up with a smirk, "I like what I see."
My jaw physically drops as I understand his implication. Well shit, now I can add pervert onto his rapidly growing list of bad attributes. How in the world he thinks this is appropriate, I will never know. But oh man, he's certainly going to know what I think.
"Listen here, sweetheart." He raises an eyebrow at my heavily sarcastic nickname. "You can fuck right off if you think I'm just gonna sit back down and wait patiently, like a good little pet, while you undress me with your eyes, without uttering a single fucking word. Except, of course, to once again tell me to shut up after I try to get the ball rolling on the interview I am fucking here for." Taking a deep breath, I put a gentle smile back onto my face.
"I hope you have a lovely day and one of the other women sues you for sexual harassment. Thank you for your time."I turn around once again and open the door. As I'm leaving I hear his voice call out words I definitely misheard.
"Goodbye for now, Miss Layla Lawson."

"Ooooh! Maybe that's luscious Lucius calling to tell you that you're his new assistant." Connor grins when my phone rings.
I let out a small laugh and roll my eyes. "Lovely, how many times do I have to say it? I totally screwed up that job interview. Not that there really even was one to begin with."
Scooping up my phone, I shush Connor as I look at the caller ID. Private Number. Oh nope. I do not answer private numbers. Ever. I always get Connor to answer them instead. He immediately understands when I chuck him my phone and smirks. For some strange reason he loves answering unknown numbers. Most likely because he just likes fucking with whoever is on the other line.
"Hello?" Connor answers, his voice losing its playful tone from seconds ago.
"I'm sorry, who is this? ... Oh... Yes, this is her phone, I'll get her for you."
My eyes widen in confusion. He never pulls this shit. Why in the world is he telling them it is my phone? I mean I hand it to him for a bloody reason. And actually expecting me to talk to them? Yeah no thanks.
He holds the phone out to me, waiting for me to take it. Vigorously, I shake my head and glare at him."Babe. It's for you."
"No shit Con." I automatically reply back before cursing.
That dick, he knew I would reply to his stupidity. He also knows that I would then have to take the call. I mean it's just plain rude to not accept the call once the caller knows I'm there. Stupid common decency. Scowling deeply at Connor, I snatch the phone from him and hold it up to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Layla Lawson?"
"May I ask who's speaking?" Despite how annoyed I am, I manage to keep my tone polite and controlled.
"Lucius Silverton."
My anger immediately gets the better of me. "What the fuck do you want?"
The deep voice chuckles lowly. "Ah, so it is you."
"What do you want?" I ask once again, trying to reign in my temper.
"I am calling to inform you that you have been hired."
"Oh fu- wait what?"
"I do not repeat myself. My office at 9am sharp on Monday."
"Uh..." My brain, nor my mouth function, only managing a small stutter.
"Glad to know you are capable of being quiet." With those charming, parting words, he hangs up leaving me to listen to the dial tone.
