We were all gathered together in the training room where Reeva wanted to go over the timeline of the upcoming mission- a bank heist. A hologram of the building was set up in the centre of our circle and we waited for Reeva's instructions.
From what I gathered from Lorna, Esme told her that the bank we were infiltrating was built upon the sufferings of mutants. It also funded projects to experiment on mutants. The mere mention of it got me stirred up, reminding me of the experience my great grandfather had to went through. The funds that will be secured will go towards the support of our cause.
While I was uneasy with the idea of robbing a bank, every reasoning and justification thrown in my way made me felt that this mission was for the greater good in the end. The end justifies the means.
Reeva was explaining everyone's role in the mission. Lorna will handle disabling the communications while Reeva and the Frost sisters will handle the employees. Rebecca will be in charge of the vault, Andy and I will be with her for protection.
"We will take what we came for and then we will leave. Violence will only be used as a last resort. Any questions?" I was relieved when Reeva said that. I didn't want to actually harm anyone as well, the most I will do is disarming. Even if these people are not mutant supporters, there was no reason to fatally harm them in any way.
"The mutant detection system. You sure you can knock it out?" Lorna asked with a tinge of doubt. "If you can't, this is gonna be a real short heist."
Reeva reassured that the Frost sisters and her were working on it. We were told to get some rest before the big day tomorrow. Andy and I started to walk towards the exit when he turned around, sensing Rebecca was not following. He stopped in his steps before turning back to walk back to Rebecca.
I stood at my place, not knowing if I should leave or stay. Rebecca continued to look at the hologram when Andy approached her.
"Hey, you're good?" Andy stood by her side.
"Yeah, just.... the vault. The one in the training room is completely different. I have to turn the whole thing around." Rebecca sounded worried as she continued glancing at the hologram.
"I think you should be fine. I mean, I saw what you did to that cop car." What cop car? Could it be from their outing? They have not been out of the building since then.
"That's a car. I have been turning them inside out since I was 12. I don't know, I just don't want to get in there, and have everyone staring at me like 'You suck. We were all counting on you'." Rebecca continued to pour out her worries.
"Hey, I know you can do it. I'll be right there. I got your back." Andy being his usual supportive and encouraging self tried to reassure Rebecca.
"So you will kill them all if they make fun of me right?" Rebecca said to Andy jokingly.
"Oh yeah, all of them." Andy said to make her feel happier.
"Yeah." Rebecca looked to Andy with smitten eyes.
"All dead." Andy added once more.
"Oh good." Rebecca went forward to encircle her arms around Andy before giving him a short kiss. This was all too much. There was an aching feeling in my chest and I immediately quickened my steps to leave the room, not knowing the different glances that both of them directed towards me.
I guess they're official then? Andy never really told me ever since we talked in my room. I didn't push for any explanation, I guess it was an awkward topic even between the both of us. Unknowingly, tears started to rim around my eyes and I closed them immediately to stop them from falling. It was of utter no use because they started streaming down my face anyways.
