Off the coast of Peninsular Malaysia, where the palm trees sway, and the eagles fly. A paradise is found, precious and innocent. So there he lays, the Maharaja Laut, or better known as Prince of the Sea.
The sea is his mother and his siblings? The dolphins. The turtles are his teachers while the seagulls? His friends. He'd hunt in the morning with the eagles, while playing with the fishes in the evening. He'd play hide and seek with Nemo the clownfish, while getting away from Alex the baby reef shark in a game of tag. Because when your parent's are the leaders of your village, life's bound to get gloomy at times.
And in those times of loneliness, he unconsciously seeks refuge from the sea. He loses himself in the ocean, the waves giving him a feeling of comfort as the water gradually sweeps around to hug him gently. One breath, and he'll be lost in his own world, away form reality. The sea was under his control, he knew every crook and cranny to it in the back of his mind.
The sea gave him hope. It became something he looked forward to everyday. So as a feeling of gratitude, he had to find a way to repay it back. Occasionally, he would bring pieces of bread to be shared with the fishes. He'd chuckle and giggle as they left soft, feathery kisses on his fingers.
He never understood the concept of washing dishes and couldn't differentiate which spoon to use during dinner. In contrast, he learned how to make plates from leaves and the alphabet with a stick. He learnt how to build a boat and climb a tree. He made toys from palm leaves and used a coconut as a soccer ball.
The island ,pure and unaffected by the ranging havoc of humankind. Of course the villagers treated the island and sea with uttermost kindness, though what about the outsiders? Soon, the waves started bringing unwanted "gifts" here, the amount increasing as the clock ticked by.
With the rapid increase of citizens in the country, came the increase of trash. In the beginning, a few cans would pop up on the shorelines, and perhaps a plastic bag or 2. Though gradually overtime, the situation worsened, arising quite a number of deaths of marine life. And that was when the prince took action.
Sure he still swam with the dolphins and fed the fishes with bread. But now he had a mission. Everyday, he'd dedicate a few hours of time in search of these so called trash, ridding their existence on the island. The villagers encouraged him, even helped too. Days soon turned to months, and it became a habit.
No, not all heroes wear capes, and not all princes are charming. But, he was the unsung hero. The Prince of the Sea.
Sure, he isn't a genius. Though he often ponders upon a question. "Why did mankind created plastic in the first place?"
