Prologue

I roamed my eyes at the four corners of gymnasium. Halos masilaw ako sa mga ilaw na umiikot sa buong paligid. Honestly, I am not comfortable with this dress that I am wearing. Well, I have no choice.

They are all in their best suits and dresses as they dance their own partners. I am thirty minutes late and I am not certain who'll going to be my partner tonight.

As much as I want to dance with him, I just can't. My mind can't cooperate for doing so. Nahihiya ako. Hindi ko alam ang gagawing pag-aya.

I just shoved away that thought when I saw Rochelle waving at me. I immediately smiled. I was about to run towards her when I suddenly bumped into someone.

“Hey!”

Napakapit ako sa balikat ng kung sino mang bumangga sa akin. Sobrang liwanag ng paligid kaya ay napapikit ako. And when I opened my eyes, my hands trembled. My eyes widened at tila gusto nitong kumawala.

“Are you okay?” he asked but the sound shoved that away.

I didn't utter any word. My voice suddenly ran away from me. Namamawis na yata ang mga palad ko ngayon dahil sa kabang nararamdaman.

“Uh, silence means yes?” he asked, again. Nanatili lang akong nakatayo sa harapan niya sa gitna ng maraming tao. “Can I dance you, Emerald?”

I blinked many times, trying to sink in on my mind what he just said. “S—Sure.”

He smiled, widely – his chinky eyes are attracting me. He then held my hands and we started to sway.

Few minutes passed when I suddenly saw a figure from behind who's walking towards our direction. I don't know what happened but my heartbeat stopped for a while.

“Is there something wrong?”

I opened my mouth to utter a word but someone cut me off. “Can I have this dance?”

My eyes widened when I saw a guy who's wearing a mask. I can't see his face but his eyes and voice seems to be familiar.

Napatingin ako sa kasayaw kong unti-unti akong binibitiwan kasabay ng pagtitig niya sa lalaki nang mariin. And that made my fingers to became quivered.

The next thing I knew, I am already dancing together with the masked guy. The music was slow, so as my heartbeat. But it'll become fast everytime that our gaze will meet.

“You look so beautiful tonight, Emerald.”

“T—Thanks,” I replied, shyly.

“You know what? We're suit for each other.” I heard him said and held my hands tight even more. “Given the names that we have.“

“What are you saying?”

Pabilis nang pabilis ang tibok ng puso ko. I can't even move more because of him that I don't even know.

My mind became so confused after I heard his words. And now, I don't know what to feel or to do anymore.

“Nothing,” he said in a low voice. “I said, you colored my colorless life, Emerald Green.”
