"They're faster, stronger, more intelligent than
normal people," he paced back and forth, running his fingers through his coarse raven hair as he explained. "And we don't know how to stop them."

I furrowed my eyebrows, looking up from the ground to him, "Where do I come in?" I asked, adjusting the badge on my shirt. That badge was the only thing that made me feel validation. That badge was the only thing that made me me. Without that badge, I was nothing. Just another girl on the force. Just another helpless girl on the force.

He stopped pacing abruptly, humming. As he came to a conclusion, his eyes lit up. "It's so obvious!" he exclaimed. "You're pretty, get in with them, find out why they're like this, and stop them."

After countless hours of research on the group called 5 Seconds of Summer, I'd discovered where they'd been hiding out. It was only about twenty minutes away from me, and I was determined to prove myself worthy of that badge.

Gathering my items, I hurried for the door, completely forgetting to lock it as I rushed out. Hopefully my roommate would be home soon after. God knows I wouldn't.

I jumped in the car, starting it up. Turning up the radio, I zoned out, trying to hype myself up. How was I going to do this? I couldn't pretend to have the powers that they had. They were something else, they were supernatural, they were strange. No one could explain what they were. Not even the most advanced form of science could. Not that it matters, they hid away from everyone unless they came out to kill or rob. They were our top priority.

As I reached the old, seemingly abandoned house, I stopped my car. Taking my precious badge off, I pressed my lips to it before sliding it under the driver's seat. They couldn't know why I was there. Years of training led up to this moment.

I stepped out and the cold harsh air nipped at my skin. I shivered, pulling my jacket closer to my body. Walking up to the door, my nerve's were eating away at my insides. When I made it to the door, I stood there for what seemed like days, trying to decide whether to knock or just barge right in. They would probably respect someone who just barged in.

Opening the door slowly, I looked around hesitantly. "Hello?" I called out. Closing the door behind me, it squealed, causing me to jump. I turned to look at it, breathing heavily.

It was darker in there than I thought it would be. I could hardly see.

When I turned around, there was a figure standing in front of me, a knife held out in front of him. "Who are you?" he asked harshly, his Australian accent rough. It took me a moment to get past the accent and listen to his actual words.

Looking up, my eyes wide, I cleared my throat. "I am Cecilia Rose. I want in."

Lowering the knife to his side, the man called out a series of names. Soon after, three more men shuffled out and beside him.

My breath hitched and my heart pounded.

The first man chuckled, "Boys, she wants in." They all followed suit and laughed long. As they stopped, the room grew quiet, leaving an uneasy feeling.

A different man cupped my cheek before tilting my chin to look up at him. From catching a quick glance by cars with their high beams on driving by, I could see he was rather attractive. Dyed blonde, messy hair, forest green eyes that could kill.

"What's to say you're not a cop?" the attractive man asked, letting go of me abruptly. My head fell before I looked back up at him, furrowing my eyebrows. "You're too pretty to want in on this."

I rolled my eyes. I've been hearing that since the day I said that I wanted to be a cop. I was too pretty to get my hands dirty, too pretty to do any of the hard work, too pretty to handle criminals all day. And I proved them all wrong. And I'd prove this man, all of these men, wrong too.

Shrugging, I smiled, "Trust is a wonderful thing that the human species is capable of."

"When you're us," a new voice spoke up, "trust isn't a luxury we can afford."

You all set yourself up for that, I thought. Maybe don't kill people.

"Give me a month then," I smiled through my words, "You don't have to trust me for that month, or fill me in on anything. I'll just work for you."

Another voice spoke up, grunting. "Sure. Boss?"

The first man cupped both of my cheeks, staring at me. "One month," his words stung like acid against my skin. He let go of my cheeks, this one was more gentle than the other. He ruffled my hair before turning to the boys. "Boys, we have a job."

They scurried throughout the abandoned house as I stood still. The so called boss stayed with me. Looking at me, he raised a brow that I could faintly see in the headlights of passing cars. "You can't go home if you're in this with us," he spoke roughly, "No family, no friends. Got it?"

I nodded, locking my answer in. I was in this with them. Until I got enough information to report.
