Calum
The forest floor crunched under my feet as I ran, the crisp air pushing my wolf hair out of my eyes and off my sweat coated forehead.
Something small flickered across my eyesight, causing me to freeze and crouch down, baring my teeth. I stood back, unmoving, as my breath caught in my throat and my tongue licked over my lips hungrily.
It stopped in front of me, about a metre and a half away, and looked around whilst sniffing the air consciously. It turned its head, leaving me no time to think, and I followed through with my original plan formed only minutes ago.
I leapt out from behind the tree, my paws skidding on the dirt, and pounced. It had little time to know what was happening before I had dug my claws into its body, followed by my sharp teeth.
I ignored the blood which was dripping onto the floor as I devoured the animal quickly, knowing I had only minutes left. Then I could hear the first howl somewhere close by, followed soon after by three more. My eyes darted around my surroundings, looking for one of my pack mates to emerge from the trees.
I could feel my back cracking and mutating, back into someone I would only be in the daylight. A howl of pain escaped through my changing lips before I was standing normally again, two feet firmly planted on the floor instead of four.
"Ashton? Ollie? Hello?" I called out huskily, my voice cracking in objection to my body's change made only seconds ago.
"Calum?"
I sighed in relief as four boys my age made their way through the woods, knowing they had all managed to return to their human forms.
"You get anything?" Harry asked, wiping a hand over his blood stained lips.
"Just," I mumbled in reply, copying his actions. "I caught it two minutes before the change."
My eyes looked down at the muddy ground, seeing the puddle of blood underneath the mostly eaten carcass.
"Better than I did," Ollie responded, rubbing his groaning stomach. "Looks like I'm going hungry today."
Ollie was the only one who didn't laugh as we trudged through the woods to our little hut.
"It clearly isn't peak season," Ashton grumbled, pulling his T-shirt down over his toned body. "I only managed to catch a rabbit."
I sighed, pulling a pair of boxers up my legs, brushing off as much dirt as I possibly could from my arms and torso. I found a pair of my usual black skinny jeans and managed to yank the tight material up my somewhat muscly legs.
"You ready for school, lads?" Harry asked, slapping me on the back in a friendly fashion.
"I guess." I moaned, ruffling my hair and running a hand through it to make it slightly less messy.
"Cal, your hair looks fine." Ollie chuckled, leading me out of the hut and into the now burning sunlight.
"Was just checking." I sassed, spraying myself with Lynx Excite like I did every day before school. Ashton coughed, but took the can to cover over his smell too.
"Don't want to be smelling of dog now, do we?" Sam joked, elbowing Ash in the ribs gently. This was an old joke, but somehow we all still found it funny.
"Course not." I mused, a smile playing on my lips. "We'd be smelling of wolf, you dumb-ass." Everyone cracked up again, and I grinned at my rowdy bunch of friends.
I loved life in the pack, even if it did mean the painful transformations and, on occasion, lack of food. We all got along and really that's all there was to it; we were best friends, but in reality we were closer than brothers.
I was sure that nothing would pull us apart, human or not. We fought our battles together, and even if we didn't always win we were still there for each other.
We all chatted half hearted as we ambled lazily through our territory and towards school, our wolf lives fading out of our minds for a while as we caught up on who likes who and how Ollie was getting on with the schools Rugby team.
"Hey, who's got some change I can borrow? Want to grab a quick drink of water to stop my stomach aching so much."
We all searched our pockets and chipped in a small amount each, standing in a huddle outside of the small corner store as Ollie went in to get whatever he needed.
"I swear, that boy is hopeless." Ashton joked, turning as the door swung open again.
"I heard that!" Ollie rolled his eyes, swigging back several gulps of water and swallowing with a sigh.
As a group, stood around outside in a normal town with normal shops and normal occurrences, we could persuade ourselves that we were ordinary teens with ordinary lives.
Even if the feeling would be short lived.
