The house awakened at the same time the sun did. Its beam of light reaching through the curtain, brushed against Scarlett's face as she lay sleeping. She could hear her mother's footsteps getting closer from down the hall. Her door cracked open and before she knew it her mother leaped on top of her "Rise and shine, honey! It's the first day of school! You better get moving," she groaned through her mother's excitement.
She was a junior in high school now and yet her mother still jumps on her every first day of the school year. "Good morning to you too, mom," she said through a groggy voice. She slowly pulled herself out of bed and let a yawn out with her morning stretch. Perched on the end of her bed laid her cat, although it laid still its green eyes watched her every move. Scarlett reached her hand out to give it a light pet on the head, instead she was forced to pull her hand back as the cat hissed at her, "Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today." Scarlett began to exit her room when the cat jumped off the bed and ran down the stairs, the bell on his collar growing silent as he runs further away from her.
Scarlett made her way to the bathroom to get ready for school, before she started brushing her teeth she connected her phone to her Bluetooth speaker so she could listen to some music. She realized she had an unopened message from her boyfriend, Josh. She smiled as she opened it and it read, good morning beautiful. Hope you slept well. She quickly typed her response, Good morning handsome, I slept amazing. Excited for your first day? Half way through texting Josh back her favorite song started playing on her speaker, she began to sing along as she brushed her teeth and started the shower.
She had her clothes lined out the night before, but when she got dressed she wasn't convinced this was the perfect outfit to start her first day of junior year with. The black on black ensemble though very stylish was missing something she hadn't noticed before. She tried on a new jacket she received from Josh a couple of weeks ago, this would be the first chance she had to wear it. The olive green jacket elevated her outfit and she was pleased and was certain Josh would be pleased to see her in it as well.
