James had bid his goodbyes with hugs and warnings not to let his dad aim at Brandon's feet. That had made Brandon quite skeptical and fearful of this excursion with James' dad. If Brandon thought the idea of shooting during Christmas Eve was absurd, then driving with Mr. Peterson -James' dad- at a nearby shooting range and finding the damn thing open such a day was beyond ridiculous.
"I'm really sorry for what you had to see today" Brandon said after a long time of silence while they were preparing their rented shotguns. James' dad had stiffened and looked rather embarrassed.
"Well.. wasn't really your fault we barged in like that was it?" He adjusted something on his gun "to be honest, with all that screaming I thought someone was killing James" and with that it was Brandon's turn to flush red from embarrassment.
"So you two haven't been together for too long right?" He said while taking position to shoot some fixed targets.
"Emm no, just couple of weeks now" Brandon offered
"I thought so, Jonathan mentioned your disappearance" he shot an accusatory look at him and then with a swift precision shot all three targets on center. He smirked and let the gun lower on the ground. Brandon gulping and shifting his feet away rushed to talk.
"That was my bad. You see.." he tried to explain and saw the man seizing him up and decided to keep silent.
"My son is very sensitive, Brandon" he started with a serious look "Jonathan told me how bad James had handled your 'absence' and I would appreciate it if you refrain from hurting my son again" he had narrowed his eyes and turned to shoot another three targets all on spot. Brandon had no doubt the warning behind Mr. Peterson's words and despite his slight fear he felt admiration for the man and how swiftly he had handled the matter.

James was fuming in his GAP black hoodie and black tight leggings. He was walking up and down the living room checking the driveway.
"Darling sit down" his mother urged him once again, she was relaxing on the big white couch with her feet up watching Jonathan playing his game on the big screen.
The idiot had actually placed a towel over his seat, making faces at James who was anxiously waiting his dad and Brandon to come back.
"He is going to shoot him mum" James moaned in his hands "he will actually shoot him"
"Now now dear" his mum smiled reassuringly "even if he does I don't think it will be a permanent damage"
Jonathan chuckled at that, but James cried even more in desperation.
"How could I be so stupid? I shouldn't let him go" he moaned
"You're such a drama queen" Jonathan shot over his shoulder
"Shut up" James' replied instantly back at his stupid brother
"You shut up" Jonathan retaliated
"You suck" James hissed, his anxiety turning to anger
"Oh but you swallow" Jonathan sing songed without taking his eyes from his game.
"Boys" their mother warned emerged on her phone
"It's your fault Jonathan. You gave dad your keys!"
"He stole a bat from the neighbors, you think he wouldn't take the door down if I didn't give them to him?" He said still fixed on his game
"Sooo" his mum jumped in the conversation "you and Brandon" she wiggled her eyebrows and James moaned longingly and in desperation at his name "you are together" she said as a matter of fact.
"They weren't when I was here" Jonathan's comments didn't help
"Jonathan said this boy had disappeared for days and that you didn't take it very well" James' mum sounded worried.
"Jonathan!" James screeched and threw him a pillow smacking him on the back of the head
Jonathan shrugged and went on with his game.
"I'm sorry for butting in your private life darling but we are all worried for you. We just want you to be safe" she said, sadness and unshed tears in her motherly eyes.
James felt guilt wash over him and made his way into her arms. There they hugged until Jonathan decided to join in and crush both of them with his tall body.
"Get off you oaf" James was laughing and fighting him off when the door opened and his dad and his boyfriend, yes his boyfriend! came in.
"Hey is that a family hug?" His dad immediately asked and rushed over. James blushed seeing Brandon looking at them with curious looks. His mum fortunately saved him
"Yep, but I think it's time for my hugs Mr.Peterson" she said suggestively tugging her husband upstairs. Their two sons gagged at their parents and clenched their stomachs. Brandon laughed and hugged James who had missed very much sealing his lips with his. The gagging sounds still sounded now from Jonathan and they both laughed at him.

They had all gone out that night at a Chinese place and Brandon didn't feel awkward even for a second. He had fell right in place with James family. He had been astounded by the end of the night how easily he could goof around with James' brother and the nice conversations he had with Mr. Peterson. Even James' mum seemed to warm up to Brandon and made him feel welcomed with her own motherly way. He had never had a family like this, his mum dead long before he could even remember her and his dad never the kind of man to show any emotion beyond his disappointment. His late grandma was the one who had raised him to be the man he was today and he was forever thankful to have had her in his life. But this, the family James had, this was what he had always wished for. Nate's family had been that for him for the last few years and he felt lucky for that. James' had these people all his life and that was the best thing in the world. Family was the most important thing for Brandon and he was happy that James was so close with his. By the end of the night Brandon had come to appreciate the quirkness and sassiness of Mrs. Peterson, qualities James had apparently inherited and the loyalty and seriousness of his dad that Brandon suspected James to have also.
"You have a great family" Brandon admitted hugging James at the front door.
"They would be better if dad let you stay the night" James had pouted and kept kissing him on the nose and cheeks.
Brandon chuckled "I will see you soon" he kept silent for a minute and finally mattered something he was thinking all night "maybe you can meet my friends.. they are all the family I've got" he mumbled slowly and waited.
"I would love that" James cried and smiled at him widely
Brandon let a breath he was holding and smiled too.
"Great! I will come and get you the day after Christmas. Me and my pals are having a football match. They will all be there" he said excitedly, noticing James's anxious smile he added "they are going to love you!" He smiled and kissed the guy.
It was a perfect time for Brandon to add 'sure I do' but he didn't. He couldn't bring himself admit how fast he was falling in love with James. He still feared a heartache. Instead he kept silent and smiled a sad smile.
"See you baby" he whispered and left James.
