I just got a news update from Claire. She told me that everything was alright and that she was able to calmly talk to the police. Her parents had grounded her almost in the exact same way my parents did, which means no more visits to The Coffee Bean. I am more than relieved that she didn't get arrested. Or worse, shot. How she managed to pull it off, I still don't know. When I asked her, she didn't tell me as she couldn't even remember herself. For now I'll make up an excuse as to how she did it. I'll say flirting for now.
We also heard more news from my uncle, Rich. With not being able to go out for a few weeks and having no phone, I've learned to listen in on my mother's phone calls. From what I could gather, it sounded like his funds had gotten to an all-time low. I heard words about food and home, and also reassuring words from my mother. Things like, "everything will be alright", or, "we'll find a way". I don't much care for Uncle Rich, but he seems to be in deep shit right now. It's no wonder he had all those red envelopes scattered about. Personally, I believe he should take whatever consequence he has coming for him. Homeless, no food, toilet, water, whatever. It is only himself to blame for the responsibility he failed to accomplish. Although I wrote this way about him, the family side in me tells me to feel otherwise. When he failed to do a simple task; whether it be paying the bills or saying hello to a neighbor, it is within myself to care and help him in any way that I can. That, as family, seems to be the most I can do.Sincerely,
Charlie
