I took Katerina from Timothy in one arm and grabbed his and with my free one. I took off running. Crashing through briars and bushes shielding the children from the sharp slaps of the limbs and sticks as we ran.

I wasn't sure how much longer Timothy could take. A storm was heading our way and fast. I caught a glimpse of a wooden building on the other side of the creek up ahead. Maybe two miles from us now. My long dress has rips in it from the forest.

The rain started to fall, I wrapped Katerina tighter and tucked her harder into me. Pulling Timothy closer as I turned my face to keep the freezing rain from pelleting my skin like shards of glass.
