Chapter 1: (Liam)

The boys and I had decided since we had a show in Calgary the same weekend that they had a rodeo going on, we would go and spend one of our days off down there. We had just finished our last show last night and had come here this afternoon to watch the rodeo. Walking through the fair was actually really surprising. We didn't wear any get-ups or costumes. Instead we went as our selves but nobody seemed to recognize or even notice us here. As were walking past the large animal barns, Niall claimed he quickly wanted to walk through the horse barn.

We walked up and down the few aisles seeing horses resting, empty boxes and some people grooming and saddling up their horses. It amazed me how people have such a bond with these animals that they trust them with their lives. One woman who was saddling up looked over at us and smiled. I smiled back politely and continued walking alone with the lads. Just as we started down the aisles near the back, where most of it was fairly empty, I heard voices. One to be exact, and they were yelling. I walked closer listening quietly.

"Liam, what are you doing? We should just leave!" Zayn whisper yelled to me. I ignored him and the lads, slowly walking closer to the yelling. The lads obviously followed behind me, not wanting to leave me alone. I held up a finger indicating them to be quiet and listen. As we got closer to one of the boxes, I stopped and listened closely. We hid inside the empty box beside the one the yelling was coming from. Listening over the wall.

"If you don't fucking win us the money, you can forget about coming home! I didn't ask you to be my girlfriend for you to think I would just let you live with me and have those stupid shitheads for nothing! No! You will get me my money and you will come home and do your work like you should be! You're lucky I even let you come here at all to do some fucking running around barrels on a piece of shit of an animal!" A man's voice could clearly be heard. I also heard the higly distinctive sound of a slap and a small whimper. I heard small movement behind me and saw Zayn holding Harry back. He seriously hated when men took advantage of girls, especially hitting them, well we all did, but Harry more so. I carefully peaked my head out the door. A few seconds later, the man came out with a beer bottle in hand and stormed away the other direction.

Without even looking at the lads, I walked forward slowly to where he had come from. I peeked around the open door and saw a girl there. She had her head in her hands, her dark brown hair spilled all around her. She huddled herself in her chair as she quietly cried to herself. Deciding to make myself known, I stepped forward more and softly knocked on the door. She looked up at me started. Now that she wasn't hiding her face, I could clearly see the hand print across her face, indicating he had in fact slapped her. Her eyes were red and filled with unshed tears.

"Are you alright?" I asked softly, hoping not to startle her anymore than she already was. God, that was a stupid question.

"Um, yes. I'm fine. Really." I could see in her eyes she really wasn't, but I let it go, not wanting to upset her. I nodded and pulled a small smile on my face.

"Are you, are you riding in the show today?" I was trying to take her mind off of what happened just moments earlier.

She looked down, nodded and stood up. She was wearing a pair of boot legged jeans that faded down to the bottom and looked worn, along with a blue, black, and white flannel shirt with a white tank top underneath. I could see some features on her face. She had green as green can be eyes and light freckles all around her face. She was pretty, in a young looking way. Her hat sat sitting on the chair beside her and her boots were worn down a fair bit. She brushed her self off, reached down for her hat and placed it perfectly on her head. After getting her self arranged, she walked over to the door where I was standing. I moved out of her way as she smiled politely at me. She walked past me over to the next box and walked in. I followed behind her and looked in the box. There stood a dark brown horse with a black mane and tail. It turned to look at me as she got it saddled up. It had a marking on its forehead in the shape of a four leaved clover. He had four white, what looked to be some kind of fabric around his lower legs, but two white legs stuck out above the fabric. His front right and back left, opposites of each other.
