Shattering the Alpha is Book #1. They are stand-alones but interconnected. This book is not edited. Please don't expect perfect writing.
This would make more sense if you read Shattering the Alpha first. But, if you haven't read it, it should be fine. It's a spin-off with the characters from STA in the background, while these characters are the protagonists.
This werewolf world is a bit different and has a few different set of rules than other books depending of what you have read in the past. The next chapter will have the background info necessary. It is titled "Important message for readers."
