York Elizabeth Cooper

York Elizabeth Cooper had eyes like the night sky, unlit by stars, and long, beautiful chestnut hair made imperfect only by two rebellious streaks of blue.

The blue hair dye and uncommon name are all York has of "out of the ordinary", otherwise she is completely, utterly, and unchangeably average.

The hair dye? Obviously done to stand out. A rebellious act to shout "I'm a teenager and nobody tells me what to do". But in all honesty, York had been terrified of getting her hair done that way. What eventually convinced her?

Her best friend, Jake Woodley and his urging "Be yourself, York. For once in your life do something just to DO it."

Easy for him to say. He was constantly doing things just to DO them and somehow he got away with all of it. Maybe it's because of his charm, his looks, or a combination of both, but whatever the reason, Jake was loved by all wherever he went.

Jake was cute. Okay, not cute, HOT. Undeniably and strikingly hot. He wasn't captain of the football team or anything like your average jerky jock. Jake was sweet and good at making people laugh.

Why he wanted to be best friends with York was beyond her. But they met through their friend Tristan and were inseparable since. From the first day they started texting, York told Jake things she hadn't shared with anyone else. Ever. And Jake did the same. There was a constant but unspoken level of trust between the two.

Now, I know what you're thinking, but this isn't going to be your average Wattpad story of "guy-and-girl-best-friends-fall-in-love-and-have-amazing-sex-and-live-happily-ever-after".

No, I'll tell you right now that this is the story of how York and Jake DIDN'T fall in love for one reason or another, and the story of how things don't always work out the way you wish they would.
