The air was cool, crowd buzzing with excitement as the final moments began to count down on the clock. You were shivering head to toe, two layers of pants, and three different shirts tucked under a hoodie and jersey couldn't even keep you warm in the rink. You watched the puck intensely as it was passed to Mendes in the final 5 seconds of the game. The score was tied 3-3 and this final shot would make or break the hockey teams chance at finals. Your friends were sat beside you screaming for him to shoot the puck, but you were frozen, surprisingly nervous for the boy you had grown to hate. He stood for a second, not moving and you watched as he didn't take an open shot. Frustrated, you stood up and yelled out, "Shoot the fucking puck Mendes!"
His head snapped up and finally, he pulled his stick back, slowing on the ice before whacking the puck straight towards the goal. The goalie rushed to grab it but was only a second too late. The buzzer went off signaling the game, the score was 3-4 a win for the Toronto Blue's.
The stands were shaking, people jumping down them to get onto the ice, voices booming as they cheered out Shawn's name. It was complete and utter chaos with people knocking into you left and right, almost throwing you off your feet.
"Y/n! Cmon I wanna go congratulate G!" Your friend Bella says, yanking your arm and  referencing to her boyfriend Geoff.
"Okay, okay!" You yell over the crowd, letting her yank you towards the ice, the two of you weaving through the crowd. You hop over the edge of the rink and make your way towards the group in the middle of the ice. You quickly begin to lose your footing, and Bella swiftly catches you, helping guide you over to the team.
Geoff spots the both of you and starts making his way towards you pulling you both into a bear hug. "My two biggest supporters!"
You laugh into his shoulder as he continues to hold the both of you tight to his chest. You pull out of the hug and watch as he picks Bella up, spinning her around before setting her back down and grabbing your hand, leading you to the players bench. Bella helps you off the ice and you take a seat next to her on the bench watching Geoff down an entire water bottle. Geoff and Bella begin to talk to one another quietly, and you allow your gaze to fall upon the center of the rink where the team is socializing with the crowd.
The energy of the rink is nothing short of amazing, the other team walks to their locker room, blatantly disappointed with themselves as your school congregates on the ice. You rub your hands together in hope that it will somehow help warm them, and Bella notices and with a smile takes your hands in hers to help warm you up.
"You're always so cold." Bella giggles, rubbing her hands on top of yours to create some type of friction.
You sigh at the feeling and grin at her, sitting comfortably watching at the crowd begins to disperse. "Should we move Bell?" You ask her, watching as the team makes their way over to you to collect their things. Her head snaps up to watch the team approach the bench and begins to speak but is interrupted by Geoff.
"You're with me, you're fine." Geoff shrugs, sendin Bella a wink, his white and blue jersey falling off his shoulder a bit.
You had no problem being around the team. As a matter of fact, you quite enjoyed the company of most of the players, all kind and funny, never too pushy or rude to you or Bella. The both of you found a safe haven in the bleachers during every one of their practices, you would have papers piled around you and multiple books open as you rushed through your homework, Bella to your side cheering Geoff on. Occasionally, Geoff would force you and Bella to tag along to some of the team ice-cream gatherings, which were always more than enjoyable as long as you avoided one certain person, Shawn.
From the get-go, Shawn never appealed to you and as soon as you got to know him a little better, your dislike for him grew stronger. Being not only the captain of the hockey team, but also the vice president of the biggest frat house on campus, it is easy to say that he is a grade A douchebag. Not one interaction you have had with him ended well, and he made no effort to prove your perspective of him wrong. Bella knew all too well how you felt about Geoff's best friend, and even Geoff had the slightest suspicion of how you felt, but never brought it up in worry of hitting a sore spot, or causing an unwarranted argument.
"Why hello ladies." A smooth voice speaks. You look up to see Brian standing above you with a smile on his face. "Y/n, to whom do I owe the pleasure?"
You roll your eyes with a smile, "Hey Bry, good game!" He takes a bow and continues on his way down the bench to gather his things.
Slowly, the team members gather near the bench, each one stopping to greet you and Bella before grabbing their things and heading for the showers. Within 5 minutes the rink was abandoned, the only people upon it being you, Geoff, and Bella.
"Where's Shawn?" Bella questions Geoff to which she receives a shrug in return.
"Probably getting head from one of the cheerleaders." Geoff says nonchalantly, settling in between you and Bella and throwing a heavy arm onto Bella's shoulders.
You scoff at the thought, looking up to see Shawn skating towards you. "Speak of the devil." You mutter, rolling your eyes.
He hops off the ice smirking at you and taking a seat directly next to you on the bench. You let out a small sound of distaste, seeing he completely avoided the good 4 feet of bench to your left.. The thing with Shawn is that he knows how much you dislike him, and he uses that to his advantage, constantly picking the seat closest to you, attempting to hold your hand or run his hand up your thigh, anything to make you uncomfortable.
He quickly unties his skates before wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you into him. "Hey dollface."
You gently grab his arm, pushing it off of you before standing up and leaning against the ledge of the rink facing Geoff and Bella. "What's the plan for tonight?" You ask them, picking at your nails.
"Not sure yet, we were thinking about going out for ice cream and inviting a couple guys from the team," Bella says before narrowing her eyes at you. "Anyone in specific you think we should invite?"
In the corner of your eye you see Shawn fiddling with the strings of his jersey paying no attention to the conversation you guys are having. "Nope. No one in particular, why?"
"I don't know." She snickers at you leaning onto Geoff. "You and Brian seem to get along quite nicely, if you're catching my drift."
This seems to catch Shawns attention and his head shoots over to look at you, awaiting your reply. You tug at the strings of your own jersey and look at Bella before quietly replying. "Eh." You shrug, wrapping your arms around yourself in an attempt to keep warm. You had known Brian for years now, seeing as you had grown up living across from one another, becoming good friends over the years.
"I'm pretty sure he doesn't feel 'eh' about you." Geoff mumbles under his breath with a small smile, causing Bella to pop up off the bench and grab you.
"We have to get you guys together, oh my goodness that would be so cute!" Bella squeals, shaking you. You could already see the wheels tuning in her head, thoughts of what to name your children would most definitely be the next thing to come from her mouth.
You gently push her away and sigh, "I'm not interested Bell."
She goes to argue before Geoff calls her name, standing up and leading her out of the rink. "Come with me real quick I need to grab something."
You're about to excuse yourself to go to the bathroom when Shawn stands up and struts over to you. He traps you with his arms on either side of you and leans his head down a couple inches from yours. His eyes scan your face a couple time, "Shoot the fucking puck Mendes?"
Your face flushes red and you look away from him. Shawn doesn't like this and grabs your chin to turn you to face him. He looks at you expectantly, awaiting an explanation. You hurriedly reply, "You weren't shooting, there was 3 seconds left in the game and I thought for sure we were gonna lose."
His lips pull up into a smirk and he narrows his eyes at you, running a hand up your side. "I don't lose honey."
You shudder under his touch and close your eyes to regain your composure. "Don't be so cocky, it was an open shot that you took, not like it took a lot of effort."
His smirk doesn't drop, and surprisingly he doesn't reply with a witty rebuttal, but rather shuffles closer to you, his legs slotting between your, hands travelling up into your hair and face moving closer to yours. Your eyes widen and you weakly attempt to push him away. He holds you in place a moment, lips brushing over yours before speaking, "Party at mine tonight 9 o'clock, I expect you'll be there."
You scoff and push him off of you before responding, "I will not be coming to your frat house for any reason whatsoever, especially not a party."
He runs a hand through his hair and looks you up and down, eyes landing on the front of your jersey. You cross your arms over your chest and sneer at him, "Don't stare at me you pig."
A laugh escapes him as he reaches out to grab you, your hand swatting him away. "You look good wearing my number" He snickers.
You look down, and sure enough the jersey that Bella had thrown at you on your way out the door had his number on it. You slam your palm down on the ledge of the rink, thinking of how to save yourself from this situation.
You stare at the ice for a good couple of minutes, refusing to turn around and look at Shawn in fear of being once again mocked. You feel a light touch on your back, your body tensing as he traces the letters across your shoulder blades. "Mendes looks pretty damn good on you too baby."
You drop your face into your hands and shake your head back and forth awaiting more of Shawn's mockery, but he has nothing. Instead, he wedges himself in between you and the wall and weaves his fingers in your hair, holding the back of your head. He leans his forehead down to touch yours and your push off of him only for him to pull you back into him, holding you still. "Here is how this is gonna go. You are going to come to the party tonight, or I might just have to tell Brian that you feel a certain way about him"
His grip on you loosens and you push away from him, running a hand down your face. "Don't bring him into this, how is that fair to him?"
He circles the bench with a smile and cocks his head to the side, "Since when do I play fair?"
You sit down on the bench and stare at your shoes, Shawn sitting next to you and placing a hand on your knee. "I'm going to assume you will be there." He says before standing up to collect his things, and turning to walk towards the locker room. He stops and shifts to look at you, "Oh, and y/n?"
You sigh and glare at him, "What Shawn?"
"Dress nice," He says shooting you a wink. "Brian might be there."
