This is a 'what if' story.
What if Dolores left the world right as her beautiful baby girl entered? What if Dick- her young, newly widowed husband- took the five thousand dollars and left with their baby girl to the furthest state he could think of, Alaska. Where he modestly raised the young girl, of which he named Margot, until the book.
Dolores had told Dick nothing of what her stepfather had done to her. He didn't know of a Clare Quilty until he himself read the horrid things the man had made her do. That would forever taint the love he had for his daughter.
That, in return, would force Margot away, to another world. To London, England. Where she falls head over for a German winemaker named Karl.
What if she gets married? Has a child of her own? A little girl she calls Lola. Lola in school. Lo in slacks. Or, just Lo.
What if Karl dies? What if Lola leaves? What if, what if, what if...
This is a 'what if' story- but Lola knows one thing for sure- she will never stop loving him.|| ||

For the sake of having to NOT write a story about sexually exploiting a child, or glamorizing pedophilia- I've taken the original 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov, and have branched out.
Though she is not textbook definition of 'lolita', my oc will carry an innocent mind set while being older. This plays well with the original Lolita in the way that, Dolores died at seventeen and my oc will meet her "Humbert" -defiantly not Humbert- at seventeen.
In no way am I comparing my story, or even putting them in the same category, as Lolita. In sequelesk fashion, I will incorporate similar aspects within my story- but will never fully overlap. If you don't like age-gap or find anything Lolita insufferable- please exit now!
Thank you for reading! I appreciate everyone!
