                CHAPTER 1
        The summer ended
It's a Sunday afternoon, right at the end of summer, and mom, dad, T.J and I are visiting the farm, where abu Nancy and abu Peter live.
My whole family is on the farm for Sunday lunch.

T. J and the boys are outside, on the grass.
The big ones are talking sitting in the patio and drinking lemonade. The big girls are inside, gossiping.
They are all here, except my brother Feucho. He had to stay at home.
My favorite cousin, Lucy, and I are sitting on the fence. Lucy is the same age as me.
My face is covered by a huge slice of watermelon, sweet and pink. Pink is my favorite color
Lucy looks at me and laughs
-What is so funny? - He asked.
-You were eating that watermelon in half. It seems like a heart, she says.
Also, there is pink juice dripping down your chin.
-Watermelon only tastes good if you get dirty - I say. -Then I sigh: I also love spitting the seeds. Do not go tell anyone. This is how a beauty queen does not behave
I spit three black seeds. They fly like little black bugs and fall one by one on the grass. Plop, plop, plop.

Lucy puts a hand on her heart:

-I promise never to tell that Kylie Jean Carter is a "spit-seeds" - says

We both spit more seeds. They shoot at the grass and fall into small black piles.
Our dusty legs sway on the fence, while we spit. I smiled at the hot sun that is up there, while kissing all my brown little pecks.

It's a good day to be the last day of summer
Tomorrow is the first day of school, but we have the rest of the afternoon to play on the farm

When Lucy and I finished our watermelon, we ran through the tall, golden grass to the mud that is next to the pond. I can feel it scurrying between the toes of my feet. Then, we put our pied, dirty and barefoot, into the blue and warm water. Eo pond smells good, like rain
When it is almost night, the mosquitoes begin to sting and Lucy does not stop hitting her legs

-Better we go inside -says Lucy- It's time for dinner
We walk towards the small white house, which is in the middle of a hot sky, pink as a watermelon. Black birds fly by like black seeds
The summer is already gone and the sun too. It is a gleaming orange ball, floating lazily, from the ground. The fireflies begin to blink on the grass. Today is almost over
Tomorrow will be a great adventure. My heart begins to beat strongly. Mañna will be in a completely new grade at school
