"ARI!!! Help! I can't 'adult'!"
"Maya, why are you asking me!?!? I'm the one who was going to phone you to ask for the same thing!"
"Why are you up at 2am Maya? You going to wake up Tommy."
"Waaaaaaaa!"
"Crap."
ヘ('◇'、)/
This may seem like a peculiar scenario, but it's run of the mill, we-do-this-every-day stuff for these old friends. The perfect 6. There were 7. One was lost. Lost to a truck. They were 'over it'. They weren't.
They were, essentially, broken. All believing that they couldn't 'adult'. Failing miserably in workplace scenarios, social situations etc. Heck, they couldn't even go to the supermarket without making a fool out of themselves. It wasn't exactly fun. But they managed. They took solace in each others pain. Sad as it is. It was true.
I realise now you don't know who Ari, Maya, Tommy and mister 'why are you up at 2am' are. It is my job as the recorder of these events to explain that to you.
It all started with 7 best friends: Ariana (Ari), Maya, Henry, Kai, Lola, Jo and Lois. Lois is dead. She was the youngest too. The brightest. The funniest. The happiest. The nicest. The least deserving of the fate. She'd just had a child too. Albeit at a young age, she was prepared. Was picking up baby supplies when the truck hit her. The driver was a drunk. They fined him 10k. They spent it all on the funeral.
She didn't name her child. She had a phobia of making descissions. They named her Lois. Maya looked after her. She didn't know that Maya wasn't her mum.
Maya and Henry were married and had 2 kids. Ari and Kai we're together and they had 1 with another on the way. Lois was with a guy named Alex, he hit her, abused her. She kicked him out. Next day she found out she was pregnant. Lola and Jo were on and off, sorta, they got married and then divorced and then married and divorced again. More for the kids than themselves. They were always friendly. Just stopped loving eacother. They had 3 kids. Lola had 4, she'd been with a guy for a bit and had a baby with him but the same happened with him as it did with Jo.
└(=^‥^=)┐
It was funny how their lives turned out. They all ended up doing the one thing they didn't want to do when they were young.
Ariana was squeamish, hated blood, hated oral hygiene and was scared of dentists. Guess what she ended up doing ... You guessed it! She was a dentist. And not by choice mind you, her parents forced her.
Maya just couldn't do anything other than makeup for longer than an hour. She wanted to be a makeup artist. She always joked that if she was a personal trainer she'd run away and change her name and move to the other side if the world. She was a personal trainer. She hated it.
Lola never believed in all that chi, third eye stuff or yoga. She hated yoga. She taught yoga to kids with mental health issues. She knew it was for a good cause but just felt like she was betraying the kids who were coming to her in their time of need. She was paid bare minimum because that's what she charged.
Henry wanted to share anything with the world. He literally didn't care what it was. He just wanted the whole world to know. He'd spend hours writing stories, drawing, writing songs, making videos etc. He put a lot of effort into everything but never gained more than 10 followers on any site. He was a stay-at-home dad.
Kai wanted to play or commentate on football games. (A/N English footie. Soccer for you Americans). He was passionate about the game and knew every player's stats off by heart. He was a cashier at Morrison's.
Joe was dislexic. Discovered it when he was 29. Wanted to be a writer. Couldn't grammar for the life of him. Gave up after 17 failed attempts. All ending with people severely judging him and being blunt. He was a waiter.
Lois was the only one who was doing something she enjoyed. She was a singer. She was mostly local but was being discovered and her fan base was expanding rapidly. The day after her death a major record company called her. Maya answered. She was told that they wanted to sign her. She told them the news. They ended the call.
Oh dear, I just realised I got so caught up explaining I forgot to tell you the story! Here we go...
(★^O^★)
Maya's footsteps echoed throughout the house as she creeped up the stairs towards Tommy's room. Her youngest child was crying his little 3-month-old eyes out as he grasped at attentions loving hand. Settling a little as her face approached his, Tommy allowed his mother to pick him up and hold him tight. "Shhhhh, my little angel. Shhhhh. Mamma is here. You're safe. Don't worry. *hums in the rain*" (A/N If you're like me you'll cry when you hear that. Miraculous fans where u at, peeps. It won't work! Ugh I might be able to put it somewhere else.) The small boy in her arms calmed down and began to coo quietly.
"You would've loved Lois. Now let's get that song on loop and you'll be back asleep in no time." Maya spoke softly to herself, placing her phone on the table in the corner and putting the song on loop.
(^.^)
The next day, the old friends met up at the local park. All, collective, 8 kids in toe. It was hectic. The fact that Ariana was 6 months pregnant didn't help with the load of lunch for 14 and a half people.
They found a quiet spot next to the (hidden) lake. It was hidden because it was surrounded by trees and barely anyone knew about it. Maya seemed fixated on a particular spot.
"Hey, Maya. Whatcha lookin' at?" Jo asked. Maya was tearing up now. Eyes were bulging. Shiny, reflective and sombre.
"L-l-lo-o-i-is u-used to si-ing over th-ere." her hand shaking and face drenched with sorrow, Maya buried her face in her husband's hair. Hugging him tightly. As if her life depended on it.
"It is also where an amazing story about her happened..." Lola remarked.
Authors note: Hey! First chapters are always the slowest, huh? Trust me, it gets better. I mean I hope it does. It might not. Please point out any grammatical or spelling errors you find! I'd like my books to be the best they can be! Please vote and give support! Bye,
Rainbow singing out
