Daniel's P.O.V:
"Daniel, I have come to get you out of here. We must leave now."
"Get me out of here? Really?" I asked. This man was unfamiliar, but kindness illuminated his eyes. He was handsome, allthough clearly older than me. From what I could tell he was surely about 40 years old, maybe around 45. His hair was combed nicely back, his beard was trimmed and he smelled of cologne. His clothes under the cloak were of silk and velvet, embroidered with gold thread and finished with gold buttons, all showing he clearly had money.
This man was most likely a Lord, so why was he here?
Did King Joseph send him?
Could he really mean to save me? Could I truly trust him?
Then again, do I have a choice?
If I stay, I will surely be dead in the morning. He unlocks the barred door, and puts my arm around his shoulder allowing me to lean on him. I can barely walk due to the month of torture but leaning on him helps me greatly. He reaches in his pocket and pulls out a key for the last door in the dungeon which leads out towards the stable.
How does he have these keys?
He unlocks the door and I breathe in deeply as the fresh outdoor air hits me for the first time in a month. The night time air is cold, making the hair on my arm rise, but I don't mind. I simply smile as the moon shines on me and the cold wind encapsulates me.
I see a large wood carriage in front of us, there are velvet curtains covering the windows and two charcoal horses in front. He opens the door for me as I remove my arm from his shoulder. The inside of the carriage is just as fancy, soft, red pillows on the seats and rose paintings on the inside of the doors.
"Quickly, get in. We must leave now." He says as he assists me into the carriage. He quickly gets in after me and tells the driver to go."Excuse me, who are you?" I ask after a little while.
"I am Lord Greenwale, I was sent by the King secretly to get you out. He has been horribly worried about you, Daniel." He says gently.
King Joey, sent him? He was worried? Well, then I must be reunited with him soon right?
"Then, where are you taking me? Are you taking me to see him?" I ask excitedly.
"Calm down, I am taking you to my mansion. The King will probably come tomorrow, but they are holding him under strict surveillance so I am not entirely sure when he will be able to come." He answers gently holding my hand in his.
"Ok, well, thank you so much for rescuing me. You are very kind my Lord." I tell him letting all my gratefulness seep into my voice.
"You are very welcome, sweetheart." He answers gently.
Sweeheart?
What a strange choice of words...We arrive at an impressive mansion, much larger then the one I used to serve at, the gate opens as soon as the carriage comes close. A nicely clad man who I assume is the butler opens the door for us and Lord Greenwale helps me out. I follow him inside the house. Everywhere I see there are expensive items, chandeliers, marble floors, Greek statues, Egyptian art, fine china, silverware, gold candelabras and anything else you could possibly imagine. This man must be one of the richest lords in the Kingdom.
"Are you hungry?" He asks suddenly.
"Yes, thank you, but I would not want to impose." I answer politely.
"Oh, you are not imposing, sweetheart. Anyways, you are gonna need your strength." He replies as he leads me into the dining room.
There is that nickname again, still making me weary. And what do I need my strenght for?
"Miss Jane, please make him my regular breakfeast. And bring him some of my soothing tea." He tells a young, beautiful woman. She exists the room immediately heading towards what I can only assume is the kitchen."So Daniel, you must wonder why the subject of your homosexuality does not bother me. Am I right?" He asks. Honestly I had not really thought about it, but I suppose now that he mentioned it, it does raise some questions.
"A little I suppose." I answer.
"Well, you see, I myself am attracted to men. I lived with my wife as a good husband while she was alive, but after she passed I realised I never truly loved her. She was simply what was expected from me, a highly born, beautiful young Lady with riches beyond belief. But after her passing I realised my true sexual desires where elsewhere. But unfortunately, such practices are banned by law." He explains. I nod in understanding.
"Is that why you wanted to help King Joseph free me, because you support his declaration?" I ask.
"I guess you could say that." He asnwers a little nonchalantly, making me raise an eyebrow. I'm about to ask him more about it, when Miss Jane enters the room again with a tray of food.
"Here you are sir." She says as she puts the tray down in front of me.
"Eat up, sweetheart." He says. I want to ask why he keeps calling me that, but my hunger betrays me. I eat quickly, my hunger extreme after a month of barely being fed.
"Make sure to drink your tea, I'm worried the memories of prison might cause you trouble to sleep tonight, the tea should help." He says kindly. I take a large sip, the tea feeling soothing on my muscles right away.
"What did you mean by I guess you could say that, when I asked why you helped in freeing me?" I ask, feeling drowsy all of a sudden. Hm, the tea relaxing me must make my body realise how tired it truly is. I feel my eyes closing as my head falls down on the table. The last thing I hear is a faintly familiar voice saying;"I meant, that supporting the King's cause is not as important to me as it is to get his pretty little boy toy for myself. Oh, I'm gonna have so much fun with you, sweetheart."
A/N: Uhoh, danger is building.... I guess Lord Greendale isn't who he said he is...
