I took a deep breath and exhaled. "I...umm. I work at a police department and I was on my rounds...Like on patrol." I said. Fiona looked at the bedside table on the right and saw my badge. "So I was on patrol alone cause my partner was out because of some sickness or whatever. I had to go investigate that apartment building because a neighbor called in saying she heard screaming and broken glass."

Sunday night at 8:12 PM night of the accident.

Chicago police department was the place I worked at. I didn't do much of anything cool like in those shows on television these days. I was in the lounge making some coffee for Abby my best friend since high school. She always wanted to be a cop and work on interesting cases. She just really wants to continue her dad's legacy. Her parents were born in Bangladesh then moved into the city. Tonight I was helping her finish up the papers. Abby was trying her best not to doze off. I handed the coffee to her and sat down in another chair next to her. "Sorry about this. I should have done these a long time ago! Now, there due tomorrow morning...and...I really don't wanna lose my job dude." She groaned. "It's fine. Besides, I volunteered to help." I smiled. Abby looked down at the coffee mug regretfully. "This is my 3rd one." She shrugged and drank it anyway.

Officer Ivan walked into the room and stood in the doorway smirking. "Oh gosh, Abby's doing her work last minute...Again! I'm not surprised at this point." He said in a sarcastic tone. "What do you want Ivan?" I asked without looking up from the papers I was writing on. "It's getting late and my shift is done I just wanted to say goodnight. Also, the chief asked for you Stacy." Ivan said. "Isn't  Melody out sick or something?" Abby asked me. I groaned and got up to stretch. "Yeah...So I guess I'm by myself tonight." I sighed walking to the doorway. Abby quickly put down her coffee. "Let me come with you! It's cold and the snow is dangerous and slippery tonight." She says in a worried tone. I looked back at her smiling; I love how Abby cares so much for my safety...she reminds me of my parents. "No thanks, mom!" I told her jokingly and Ivan laughed playfully. Abby pouted and went back to her work.

Everyone at the station was packing their things and some were still at there desk tampering away at the evidence and flipping through files. I felt the tiredness of the station; the smell of fresh-brewed coffee in those overused mugs. I went over and grabbed my coat and swung it over my back to keep me warm. The station had a heating system but it was very old so we'd have warm days and cold days. Chief Mcbuckly came up from behind me. I turned around and greeted him with a warm smile. He handed me a paper with the address of the emergency but told me not to worry cause it didn't seem like a big deal. That I can handle it on my own. He opened the door for me and a strong wind of snow hit me in the face.

When I got to the apartment it was already 9:34 PM
The apartment wasn't those fancy ones that usually cost a whole bunch but one of those apartments that didn't look so good. Almost broken down but somehow still running with tenants. I rang the bell of the number of the apartment and waited for an answer. It buzzed and a woman's voice came from the other side. "Hello? Who is this?" The voice asked.  The Women's voice sounds middle-aged and very tired. I cleared my throat before I could answer. "Hi, I got a report of a disturbance?" I asked. "Oh! Yes yes please come up!" The woman said with a slightly happy tone. I pulled open the heavy door and walked in the lobby. I stood in the middle of the lobby and looked around. It was freezing, It literally felt like I was outside still so walking in here made no difference. I rubbed my hands together to keep then warm but it didn't help. I hurried up to the 5th floor to get away from the cold lobby as quickly as I could.

When I knocked on the door blonde women answered. She smiled and gave a sigh of relief; Besides being tired her face read of worry. "Hi I'm Stacy, so what's the problem?".
