Fuck Deceit and his stupid boots, Roman thought to himself. His face hadn't been bruised, but his ribs hurt a bit and he found it rather difficult to breathe. Fuck him.

Roman swore to himself that he wouldn't give Deceit the satisfaction of seeing him depressed or upset at all. He wasn't about to stop protecting Virgil from him, either. And heck, if this happened every day, then... he'd find a way to deal with it. Maybe he'd ask Logan to stay behind or walk with him. They lived pretty close together.

As soon as he couldn't see or hear Deceit anymore, Roman made a break for his house. He caught up to Logan just before he stepped inside his own house.

"Hey, Logan," he called.

"Roman?" The nerd spun around to face the Disney prince reject. "Do you need something?"

"Yeah. Deceit sucks." He hadn't actually thought this part through, but he needed help. "Basically... could we walk home together from now on? I'm only a couple houses down from you anyway."

"Sure. Um... what do you mean when you say that Deceit sucks?" Logan asked. "Did he say or do something? Harm you in any way?"

"Er, yes. He did. I thought maybe if I walked with you, it wouldn't happen as much. Or at all, hopefully," Roman explained. Concern was written across Logan's features.

"I knew I didn't like him. One doesn't get the nickname "Deceit" for being the figurative embodiment of sunshine and rainbows," he pointed out. "Of course you can walk with me. You shouldn't have to endanger yourself each day just because Deceit is an asshole."

"Thank you, Logan," Roman smiled. "He said that he and Vicky were conspiring against me. Well, I embarrassed Vicky during homeroom, so it makes sense that she doesn't like me. But Deceit? He said he just didn't like me. To be honest, I feel like he just wants something from Virgil."

"I got that feeling, too. It seems to me that he's taken an interest in Virgil and you are in his way. He wants to scare you so badly that you stay away from Virgil and he can have him for himself, and Vicky gets her revenge," Logan speculated.

"Wow. They are Slytherins to the core," Roman muttered. Logan blinked and then grinned.

"I didn't take you for the Potterhead type. Do you know what house you'd be in?" Logan asked.

"Gryffindor all the way. I'm gonna guess you're Ravenclaw?"

"I am indeed," he replied. "I just hope you don't get too arrogant. Gryffindors seem to have that quality and think they are the superior house."

Roman gasped, pretending to be offended, and put his hand on his heart. "You misunderstand me, good sir. I do not think I'm better than everybody else. I was simply under the impression that that was a well known fact."

Logan rolled his eyes. "Please tell me you're being sarcastic. Now... if you don't mind, I'm going to go inside now. Farewell,"

"You make it sound like you're deserting me forever. You can just say 'goodbye,' you know," Roman replied, waving as he jogged backwards toward the street, and then down to his house.

"Is that you?" Remy heard the unpleasant voice of his father from the living room. He winced.

"Yes, sir," he grumbled back, trying not to sound too insolent. "I was just about to do my homework, sir," he continued, hurrying upstairs.

"Good," his father grunted, then added, "start on dinner when you're done with that. Make it quick, I'm hungry."
