*****ADDIE'S POV*****
I looked around curiously as we finally entered the Barden University Campus. Our car stopped and I looked at my right to see my twin brother serenading some chick who just got off a cab and was now looking at him weirdly as he did his air guitar solo. The car suddenly moved forward which sent my brother back into his seat. I laughed quietly and continued to stare outside my window to observe the sights that Barden had to offer. Oh! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Addie Swanson. My twin brother Jesse, who is 10 minutes older than me, and I are attending Barden University since it's the only school that we both agreed to go to in the end. I grinned as the car came to a halt and hurriedly stepped out of the car to stretch my legs.
"Finally! Land! I couldn't stand another minute of Jesse singing out loud!" I teased my brother with a grin. He just smiled back at me.
"As if you didn't sing along to some of the songs on the way here." He replied as he gave me a noogie.
"Hey! Not the hair! It took me hours to perfect you know!" I told him as I tried to get away. Our parents just stared at the two of us fondly.
"I'm gonna miss you kids so much." My mom said as the waterworks started.
"Oh no. Mom, we talked about this. No crying, remember?" I asked her as I looked for a way to escape this love fest. She couldn't hold it anymore and engulfed my brother in a hug. I slowly tried to tiptoe away but my dad stopped me and formed a huge Swanson Family Hug. After a few more goodbyes, they headed on their way back home and I was left with my twin brother and the start of a new journey.
Jesse and I just finished gathering up our stuff when suddenly an blonde who looked like she as too preppy for her own good approached the both of us.
"Hi there! Welcome to Barden University. What dorms?" She asked us with a bright smile. I just gave her a small one and signaled for Jesse to answer her.
"Um, Baker and Darwin, I think." Jesse replied while looking at me for confirmation. I just nodded at him.
"Okay. So what you're gonna do is you're gonna..." She started showing us where to go but I pretty much zoned off.
"Um, thanks. My sister and I better start going then." Jesse said and with that, he started to turn around. I started to follow his lead but the blonde stopped us.
"Wait! Here are your campus maps and for you miss, here is your official BU rape whistle. Don't blow it unless it's actually happening." She said and with another big smile she started to head off towards some other new comers. I shrugged and placed the rape whistle she handed me in between my breasts. Better safe than sorry.
My brother showed me where my dorm building was at. He wanted to accompany me to my room but I told him that I could handle it fine by myself.
"Hmm, 141... 142... Ah! Here we go! Room 143." I said as I faced a door at the end of the hall. I turned the knob and pushed the door open. I was surprised to see that no one was there yet. I saw a note on one of the study desks and picked it up to read it. It said:
Dear Ms. Swanson,
It is truly an honor to have you aboard Barden University this semester. As the top Freshmen Applicant this semester and for considering our prestigious University, we have decided to gift you with the privilege of not having a roommate. Yes, this room is all yours for the semester and the coming semesters should you choose to continue to stay here at Barden.
Congratulations.
Sweet. I didn't have a roommate. This is so cool. Choosing Barden over Harvard and Yale to be with my brother was a great choice. Oh, did I mention I graduated Valedictorian of my High School? Yes, life was great. I hurriedly checked my room. There were 2 beds and 2 study desks with some shelves and 2 more doors. I opened the first one and discovered that it was a closet. I decided to start unpacking my stuff first to get it over with. If Jesse bought a ton of movies, I bought a ton of books. I was a bookworm and enjoyed reading more than watching the film version of a certain book. Once I placed all my things away and placed bed sheets on my bed and the extra bed, I decided to open the 2nd door. It was a bathroom. That meant that I didn't have to go out of my dorm in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or use the co-ed showers. Awesome. I was about to gather my iPhone, earphones and the book I was reading to head on over to Jesse's dorm when a knock interrupted me. I cautiously opened the door to see a girl with blonde hair that was reserved at the front but party in the back. Beside her was a curvy and tall brunette.
"Um, hi! Can I help you guys?" I asked with a smile. The blonde just grinned at me.
"We just wanted to make a friendly neighborhood visit. My name's Fat Amy and this is my roommate, Stacie Conrad." She said as she gestured to the brunette who gave me a friendly smile and a wave. I relaxed and opened the door wider, gesturing for them to come in.
"Wait, you call yourself Fat Amy?" I asked her as she entered my dorm.
"Yeah, so twig bitches like you don't do it behind my back." She said with a smile.
"Um, wow, okay, Fat Amy." I told her with a smile and shook her hand. I shook Stacie's hand next.
"I'm Addie. Addie Swanson." I told them with a shy smile.
"Nice to meet you Addie. So, where's your roommate?" Stacie asked me as she looked around.
"Um, I don't have one." I said looking down.
"Really? Why not?" Amy asked curiously.
"Barden was thankful I chose to go here instead of Harvard or Yale." I answered.
"Ooooo. Look Stacie, we have a little genius in our hands. Now we know who to turn to when we don't get something school related." Fat Amy said with a wink to which I just laughed at. We made small talk for a few more minutes before we all decided to go to the Activities Fair.
Once we got there, we decided to split up and look at some of the clubs on our own before meeting back up again after a hour. I was walking around aimlessly when I hear a group of boys chanting.
"Taking names, taking numbers. Join our righteous frat. If you ain't pledging Sigma Beta, you ain't worth no crap." They said as they passed me. I then heard someone else talk.
"That's a double negative."
"That's a lot of negatives." Another voice spoke and I recognized that voice anywhere. It was my twin brother. I hurriedly turned around, ran towards him and tackled him in a hug, wrapping my legs around his waist and hanging on to him like a koala.
"Jesse! I missed you!" I cried out in glee.
"Woah! Hey! Calm down will you! You make it seem like we haven't seen each other in ages. I just saw you like, 2 hours ago." He said with a chuckle, carefully placing me down. I pouted in what I knew was an adorable manner.
"But I'm used to seeing you almost every hour of the day." I told him with a whine. The person beside him cleared his throat."I'm guessing this is your girlfriend Jesse?" He asked with a smile. I scrunched my face at what I heard.
"Eww. Me? His girlfriend? Not in a million years. I'm Addie. And I'm Jesse's little sister." I told him as I held my hand out.
"Benjamin Applebaum, at your service. But call me Benjie." He said and shook my hand.
"Nice to meet you Benjie. So bro, any clubs catch your attention so far?" I asked him as we started to slowly walk forward with his arm around me. But before my brother could answer, Benjie spoke again.
"Follow me. There's only one group on this campus worth joining. As far as Barden goes, that's what being a man is all about.
Treblemakers burst into song- "Let It Whip"
"The Treblemakers. The rock stars of a cappella, the messiahs of Barden. Well, you know, not including athletes, frat guys or actual cool people." Benjie explained as we went closer to listen to them sing.
"Organized nerd singing. This is great." Jesse replied with a smile.
"Yeah, it makes so much sense. How's your voice?" Benjie asked him.
"We both are here to have the fun so, let it whip." Jesse sang.
"Woah. Nice." Benjie said amazed.
"What about you Addie? Can you sing too?" He asked me. I blushed red before answering.
"Um, no, not really. I-" I tried to say but Jesse cut me off.
"Are you kidding me? You've been singing ever since you could talk. Show him what you can do Adds." Jesse encouraged. I took a deep breath before opening my mouth.
"We both are here to have the fun so, let it whip." I sang.
"Awesome. You should totally audition for the all female a cappella group here at Barden. The Bella's need raw talent like you." Benjie praised. I just smiled shyly before looking back at the Treblemakers who were still performing. I looked at each one of them until one caught my eye. He had slightly curly black hair and mocha colored skin. I could see a glimmer of what looked like stud earrings in each ear. I had to admit, he was cute. I was too busy admiring my new find that I failed to notice the Trebles had finished their performance already. The leader was scolding one of his members, Well, scolding was a nice way to put it, it sounded like he was threatening his teammate.
"When you came in and you were like just strumming the guitar and it was like totally off-key, I wanted to choke you!" He said angrily.
"Bumper" Cutie said, trying to calm the leader, who's name I now found out was Bumper, down but he was having none of it and continued.
"I wanted to choke you out!" He said. Benjie decided that was the time to make his move.
"Okay, I'm gonna go introduce myself. Everybody be cool, it's just a normal day." He said as he started walking towards the gathered group. Jesse and I on his heels.
"Hi. Hi. Benjamin Applebaum. I saw you guys perform at the Mall of America like three years ago. Totally changed my life. I have not stopped thinking about you since." He said excitedly. Jesse and I looked at each other when he said that. It just didn't sound right but I didn't say anything. Apparently, Bumper thought the same but didn't have the common courtesy to hide his reaction.
"Thank you." He said obviously weirded out.
"And, Bumper, huge fan. Your arrangement of Lovin' Spoonful's Do You Believe In Magic inspired me to become a certified illusionist." Benjie said and performed a trick.
"Wow" Jesse said trying to lighten the mood.
"The smell of your weird is actually affecting my vocal cords so I'm gonna need you to scoot, Skedaddle." Bumper said in a mean way.
"Hey! Don't call him weird." I said stepping up to my new friend's defense. They all turned their attention to me and I could feel myself sink inwardly into Jesse's arms but I stood my ground.
"And who might you be, beautiful?" Bumper asked me with what he thought was a seductive smiled aimed at my direction and wiggled his eyebrows at me. Jesse came to the rescue.
"Hey! Back off! Let's just go, okay?" He said looking at me then at Benjie.
"But why don't we just exchange emails, and then totally hang out right now, together?" Benjie asked Bumper hopefully.
"No. Hard pass. Hard pass. But you, on the other hand, I would like to get to know more of." He said looking at me suggestively. I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed both Benjie and Jesse's hands before dragging them away.
"What a nerd alert. Okay guys, now let's match pitch." I heard him say to his team.
"Too far." Jesse commented when were far away enough for them not to hear.
"You think?" Benjie asked looking at Jesse and I.
"Yeah." I told him with a nod.
"Should I have done another trick?" He asked us.
"The trick was fine. I just think the talking was a little bit weird." Jesse said.
"Maybe you can try to facebook message him?" I told him with a comforting smile.
