"Have you been going to the beach lately? You look like you tanned." Renjun stated, handing Xiao Jun his usual cone of cookie dough ice cream.
"Yeah, I've been going to the beach with Hendery a lot recently." he answered, pressing the ice cream to his lips.
"Ah, that boy again. Do you like him or something?"
Xiao Jun almost choked on his ice cream. "What? Why do you and Yangyang always come to these conclusions?"
Renjun shrugged. "Your friendship with him seems pretty gay."
"Pretty gay." Xiao Jun imitated, purposely making his voice low.
The cashier slapped his shoulder. "Don't."
A closed mouth grin spread onto Xiao Jun's lips as he continued to eat.
—
Xiao Jun thought it was weird that Hendery hadn't come over yet. He stole a glance at the time, it was almost 4pm.
He directed his attention back to his book (which he has been reading all day) ,eyes skimming over the words. Merely a few seconds later, the shrill sound of the doorbell echoed through the house.
Getting up from his comfortable position on his bed, the boy went to answer the door.
"Hey Xiao Jun." Hendery chimed in his usual manner.
"Hi." he smiled, stepping aside as if the other boy was gonna come in. Instead, Hendery grabbed his friend's wrist, keeping him in the doorway.
"We're going on a road trip." Hendery smirked, staring the other in the eyes.
Xiao Jun blinked, trying to process the statement as he was pulled out of the doorway, his grip on the door handle closing him out of his own house.
"Hendery," he managed to squeak as he was led down the driveway. "D-do you have supplies for it?" he stuttered out, still trying to wrap his head around that a minute ago he was chilling on his bed reading and now he's about to go on a road trip.
"I actually didn't pack any food, we'll stop at a convenient store. We'll be back by night anyway."
"What?" Xiao Jun halted in front of the truck. "Where the hell are we going?"
"Wherever the road takes us." the other replied, opening the driver's side door, slipping in front of the wheel. Sighing heavily, Xiao Jun got into the passenger's seat, hoping he wouldn't regret this.
"Can I trust you driving?" he asked, eying Hendery plugging the keys in.
"This is my dad's truck, so I gotta try my best not to damage it." he replied, making a box smile.
Xiao Jun shook his head slightly and chuckled. "Okay."
And so, Hendery pulled out of the driveway, and they started their adventure. As mentioned previously, they stopped by a local 7-eleven and picked up some snacks.
"Why did you randomly decide to go on a short road trip?" Xiao Jun asked, tossing another chip into his mouth.
Hendery shrugged, keeping his hands on the wheel. "I was bored."
"That's it?" he raised an eyebrow, staring out the window, eyes tracing the greenery and the clear blue sky above them.
"Mhm."
Xiao Jun let out a soft laugh. "I have no idea where you're taking me, you could be kidnapping me for all I know."
"Do you not trust me enough?" Hendery frowned sarcastically, puckering his lips into a pout.
"Of course I trust you, fool." Xiao Jun rolled his eyes lightly, turning away from the window to look at the other boy.
Hendery smiled, turning his head since they were at a stop light. "Well I hope you like surprises."
Xiao Jun sunk into his seat, a drawn out sigh escaping his lips. "I guess I'll find out then."
Throughout the past two months of knowing this boy, Xiao Jun found him unpredictable, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
It was low key exciting.
