A large slam awakes me. I bury my head further into my pillow but the revving of an engine just outside my window makes the idea of falling back asleep just that an unachievable idea. I sit up and my hands make their way to my short blonde hair that now resembles a bird nest and I flip back onto my pillows. If this was going to be the entirety of my summer I was in for a treat, it had been only 2 days since school got out and I was already lacking in activities to do. I had re read the majority of my bookshelf and already breezed through 3 seasons of a tv show. And honest to God the only reason I was awake right now was because my mom wasn't well adept in keeping quiet in the morning. A buzz comes from somewhere in my mess of sheets and blankets and I begin to rummage around in the mounds of fabric until I feel the cold surface that is my phone. Of course hearing that buzz creates hope that it's a cute guy or a popular girl hoping to hang out but it's just my mom.
Audrey please do something today you haven't left the house since school got out

I put my phone back down and become entrenched in the ever entertaining activity of staring at my ceiling. Another buzz snaps me out of my self loathing, this time it's some Instagram notification.

End of school party
Tonight 9:00
310 Sweetwater Lane

The message was cryptic and a little creepy but I was at a point where if a serial killer invited me out id probably except the invitation. What followed was a load of stress-do I try to find someone to go with or just go alone- what if I don't know anyone there- what do I wear- how do I interact- do I drink tonight? You'd think I was going to meet the president with all the preparation anxiety I was facing.
I decided to obey my moms wishes and go outside even if it was just to walk my dog. I threw on a jeans, a shirt and some shoes before getting yanked out the door with my dog.
"Bear let's go this way," I tried to yank him down Down the path that didn't walk me right past Pops but of course his strength overpowered mine. I'll admit it was pretty nice to doing something other than lying in bed. It was warm and the trees that lined the streets appeared extra green as I stumbled down the sidewalk. Eventually the sidewalk turned and there it was, I stopped in my tracks for a second looking at the illuminated sign and all the rustic cars parked outside. I quickly brushed away whatever thoughts that were forming in my mind and continued walking.
Later that day...
I looked at myself in the mirror I had successfully cleaned my hair done my makeup and picked out a black sweater and jeans to wear. It was approaching 9:30 and I had been waiting for about an hour because I didn't want to be the first person there, I thought leaving at 9:30 was appropriate so as soon as the long hand hit the 6 I practically sprinted to my car because my room was becoming somewhat of a prison and I was ready to leave it. I had never been to this house so I put it in my car gps and noticed how it was right on sweetwater lake. The drive took me down a long windy dirt path and the large trees seemed to be closing in closer and closer to my car. I was beginning to think I was being led into the middle of nowhere to be killed until I started to see the dull shine of lights and hear the muffled sound of music. Finally a long driveway appeared leading to a large house with about 10 cars parked outside. I nervously parked behind some white car and stepped outside. It was still pretty warm outside so my shivers were mostly due to being nervous. The music was now louder and I half expected the house to be shaking but there it stood sturdy and huge, I found myself wondering who's house it was but that quickly dissipated when the door suddenly opened.
"Audrey," Her voice sounded surprised. I just smiled.
"Hey Ruby," I looked at her mid-length dirty blonde hair that was curled and her outfit- a tight black top and skinny jeans which was honestly the opposite of an outfit the Ruby I knew would wear.  She was holding a red solo cup and seemed a little out of it.
"Uh have fun," she smiled and stumbled past me. I wasn't sure where she was going but I assumed someone was coming to join her. She left the door wide open so I slipped in, I showered the living room and saw the people I expected.
"Hey Audrey!" I turned to see a mound of red hair and a varsity jacket. His white smile made me blush a little.
"Hi Archie,"
"Uh Ruby's around here somewhere," he looked around the room.
"Yeah I just saw her," I motioned to the door,
"You guys still aren't really talking?" I stiffened a little.
"We're not not talking." I fiddled with my hands. A moment of silence followed so I let out the only thing I could think of, "so who's house is this?" He thought about it for a second.
"You haven't met Reggie?" I nodded no.
"Aw you gotta meet him," he started pulling me through the crowds of dancing people, "he moved here to play football with us, but his parents thought he should make friends over the summer first." I let him pull me into the kitchen.
"Yo reg," he called at the back of a tall dark haired boy. He turned around and I felt a blush growing on my cheeks.
"This is Audrey," I was definitely blushing now.
"Hey Audrey," he smirked. Before I could say Malia walked up and hugged him,
"Audrey," there it was her perfect smile and shiny hair and of course obnoxiously nice demeanor, "it's been a while, how are you?" I mustered up as much of a smile as I could
"I'm really good, how about you?" It was hard seeing Ruby and now Malia.
"Good," She looked at Reggie and placed a kiss on his cheek. I wish I could have been surprised but that is always how Malia has been, she got everything she ever wanted just because that's who Malia was. To my rescue Archie chimes in,
"Me and Audrey are going to go get a drink," Malia and Reggie waved and as I walked away I caught Reggie's eye for a moment longer than necessary. While Archie mixed me some random concoction I sat at the island and had a moment to regret coming, the only thing that would make this better was if Zoe showed up, then it could officially be an ex- friend party. My moment of mourning was interrupted by A red cup getting placed in front of me.
"Thanks." I began sipping the unidentifiable beverage I squinted and my throat burned. Why did alcohol have to be so gross. I felt Archie sit next to me,
"You know I know a little bit about losing friends," he smiled.
"Try all of them." I sat back against the chair.
"I know Ruby misses you."
"Why would she she's popular now and she still has you," I felt the alcohol kicking in.
"Me and Ruby have been best friends since we were little but it's not the same as her having you guys." I turned away from him and began to drink the rest of my cup.
