Seriously, why the fuck did I decide to go over to Harrison's house? What was going through my mind?
'Oh, I'll just go over to the house of the boy I hate, because why the fuck not.'? Sometimes I can be a real dumbass, especially when it comes to things like this.
I mean, I still didn't like him, but it had been like 3-4 years since I've seen him, and I was sixteen now. Did I really want to be petty like I was when I was like twelve? Well, yeah... but I didn't want to be as petty. I matured... slightly.
Harrison and I were laying on the couch. He was doing something on his phone while my eyes scanned the room. The house was small, but I guess they didn't need a really big space.
My gaze landed on a shelf that had framed family photos sat on them. The first one was Harrison, his parents and a little dirty blonde haired boy. As I looked at the pictures, I realized that after about three of them, the little boy wasn't there anymore and Harrison's parents shared petrified expressions.
A single picture sat in the middle. It was a picture of that little boy, sitting on a small stool with a blue backdrop behind him. I assumed he was Harrison's brother, but I didn't want to ask.
"Sooo you invited me over to do nothing?" I looked to the other end of the couch where he lay, his head resting on the arm. "I mean... first, I don't really know what you like to do and two, I honestly didn't think I'd get this far." He responded, shrugging as he locked his phone and looked at me.
"Hm. I thought you'd just make me watch you do your magic tricks," I shrugged. "But whatever. We need to at least do something. I didn't come here to be bored, after all." I said, hoisting myself up from where I was laying and sitting upright.
"Hm," he hummed, sitting up as well. Soon after, his eyes lit up and he sat up straight. "Aha! I know!" He jumped up and grabbed my wrist gently, pulling me up with him. We ran towards the front door and he let go of my wrist.
"Wait, where are we going?" I asked as I watched him slip his shoes on. I decided to do the same. "You'll see." He said with a grin. I rolled my eyes slightly. He took my wrist again and ran out the door.
We went around the side of the house, which revealed a trail into a forest. He didn't hesitate to take me through.
Where the hell are we going?
After about two minutes of running, he stopped. At first I couldn't see anything until he pointed up. I looked up and saw a medium sized tree house in the big tree that stood in front of us.
The outside looked old and worn down. "Sooo... why are we looking at an old tree house?" I asked. "The outside might look like shit," he ran over to the tree and pulled a rope latter from behind it. "But the inside is wayyy better." He said.
He signaled for me to go over to him. I decided to, why not? When I made it over to him, he handed me the latter. I began climbing it. He held it from the bottom once it started swaying from my movements.
I made it to the top and looked around. The inside was decorated with random posters and strings of light hung from the ceiling. In the middle were three bean bag chairs. One was green, another was blue and the third was black. They sat in a sort of triangle shape.
The inside definitely looked better than the outside. Harrison soon came in and stood next to me. "Tada!" He said dramatically. I let out a small laugh. He walked over to the green bean bag and slumped down in it.
I soon followed, sitting in the blue one next to his. I continued looking around. My eyes soon landed on a small table with a few cards, rings and other things he uses for tricks. They looked like they hadn't been touched in a while.
"How long has it been since you've been up here?" I looked back at Harrison, who seemed to be staring at me. "Probably a few months. My parents didn't let me come back after they found out I had been practicing magic out here." He responded, looking around some.
A small frown appeared on my face. Honestly, he deserves better, and that means a lot coming from me. "They should let you practice your magic more. I don't see why th-" I stopped. He gave me a saddened glance.
"Oh... right... but, that wasn't really your fault, Harrison." I reassured him. "It kind of was... I mean-" I put up a finger to silence him. "You didn't know what would happen. I may not know much about the whole thing, but I know you didn't mean to do it."
He let out a small sigh. "But... my parents don't believe that..." his shoulders drooped. "Your parents can fuck off. Er, uh... no offense... but it's true." I shrugged. He laughed slightly, which actually made me smile genuinely.
The room went silent for a few short moments. "Thanks, Nerris." We locked eyes for a moment, and I finally realized something. I don't know why a few minutes of staring into his eyes made everything click, but I didn't like it when I figured out that...
I like Harrison.
Fuck.
