-SHAWN-

Shawn isn’t the type of gay who would dress up in women’s clothes or wear make-up. He’s simple, happy and contented with a V-neck t-shirt, faded jeans and converse. He doesn’t need to dress up and tell the world what his preferences are, but knowing that he is true to himself and to the people he knows are more than enough.

He’s 19, born and raised in the Philippines. With a Chinese father and a mestiza mother, he grew up with a lot of men and women envious with his flawless skin that he got from both parents. Despite the very hot and sizzling weather in the country, he managed to maintain the color of his skin. With no sunburns whatsoever. Lucky guy. Here in the Philippines, guys his age are most likely still living with their parents, but Shawn likes privacy and independence. He works at Starbucks during the day, and goes to the university in the afternoon till evening. He doesn’t need to work his ass off to pay his tuition. In fact, his ATM and credit cards are fully loaded, thanks to his parents who are always looking out for their youngest son. But he’s not the type of guy who likes spending his parent’s hard-earned money. He wants cash of his own.

He works hard to adjust his time in school and in his part time job. Being a 2nd year university student, he’s taking at least 24 units which he struggles to balance each and every day.

Sunday morning rain is falling

Steal some covers share some skin

Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable

You twist to fit the mold that I am in

But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do

And I would gladly hit the road get up and go if I knew

That someday it would lead me back to you

That someday it would lead me back to you

“Hello?” He answered, after a few lines of his “Sunday Morning by Maroon 5” ringtone. He always does that, listening to it ring until he decides that it is time to answer it.

“Hello darling! How are you? I miss you please come home!” his mom greeted him and Shawn could imagine the look in his mother’s face right now. Probably pouting.

“Hey mom I miss you too but you know I’m quite busy.” He answered carefully, making sure that he won’t hurt her mother. She’s quite sensitive and it has always been a challenge to turn her down.

“But Shawny-“

“Mom. Just Shawn.”

“Sorry darling. I keep on forgetting that you’re not my little Shawny anymore.”

He sighed. His mom really doesn’t know the concept of “move on”. He understands that it’s just normal for a mother and he misses her terribly, but he needs space and privacy. Plus, his mom would know about him being gay.

“I know mom. So why’d you call?”

“Well…..”

That’s never a good sign. He thought.
