"How did she take the news?" Elliot asked as we laid together in bed that night. Meredith was snuggled up on Elliot's chest, and he couldn't bear to move her and have her wake up.
"It's still going to be a while before she trusts us completely. But I'm sure it will be okay." I replied, as I reached over and ran my fingers over the thin hair that covered my daughter's head.
"Well, I'm glad. Maybe then she won't be picked on at school anymore." Elliot yawned before he leaned down and kissed the top of Meredith's head.
"What? She's getting picked on?!" I asked, shocked. I had expected Mary to tell me if she was getting picked on because I've tried to be the person there for her.
"Yeah. Liv, don't freak out. She just felt more comfortable talking to me when we drive home after dropping Chris off at t-ball practice. You are someone she looks up to, and I'm just the dork that you are married to and have procreated with." Elliot replied as he closed his eyes. He didn't want to discuss this anymore, but I did.
"El-"
"Sleep, babe. We can talk about this on our way to work in the morning. You can yell at me and hit me, but right now we need sleep. You never know, Mary may still wake up in the middle of the night and need you. I love you. Sleep."
"Yeah, I love you too," I mumbled.
[*]
"Why aren't you and your husband talking?" Fin asked as we walked down the stairs. We had to head out to crime scene and Fin had paperwork to do, but since I wasn't talking to my husband, John wasn't sending him out with me.
"We got into a fight this morning." I sighed, as I opened the bottom floor door and let Fin out before I followed behind him.
"About? If you don't mind me asking." He sighed. I was surprised that he wanted to know, but ever since Chris was kidnapped he seemed to care just a little bit more, even if he hides it most of the time.
"Mary. We are going to start adopting her, but I found out last night that she tells Elliot that her classmates pick on her, but she won't tell me." I huffed a bit, as we headed towards the front door.
"Some kids don't want to look weak." Fin sighed.
"What about your kid?"
"Ken? I have no idea. We don't talk." He replied as he ran down the stairs.
"Oh, sorry..." I frowned.
"Don't be. Mary is a foster kid. She's tough and she doesn't want to look weak."
"You are wise, Fin. Is that why you are so quiet?" I laughed.
"Yup. I share my wisdom when it's needed, not when someone wants it. And you needed it, Benson. Now, get in."

"A 12-year-old was kidnapped from his bedroom last night. The parents believe that it was the biological parents who took him. They have been contacting them, but it's a closed adoption." I sighed, as I put up the pictures of the adoptive family, the kidnapped boy, and the biological family.
"He is autistic and a diabetic. If we don't find him soon, he may go into shock." Fin spoke before he sat back in his chair and crossed his arms behind his head.
"Alright, so you two didn't come back with more than this?" John asked, and I nodded.
"Yeah, well the parents were distressed."
"I want you all to start researching. So, Olivia and Elliot go talk to the biological parents. Fin and Brian go talk to the adoption agent."
"Cap-" I tried to protest, but he just shook his head and walked into his office. I looked at my husband and he smiled.
"Come on, darling."
[*]
"Are we going to talk to them, or are we going to fight first?" Elliot asked as he parked outside of the rundown house we had to talk to the biological parents at.
"Why did she trust you but not me? I've known her for longer. We had a connection. When she was hurt, she came to me for help. I just don't understand." I frowned.
"Babe, it's not because she doesn't like you or doesn't trust you." He spoke, as he reached over and rubbed my leg gently.
"Fin said it was because she didn't want to look weak... she is so strong. She isn't weak." I breathed.
"I know that, and you know that. Chris knows it and I bet even Meredith does. But she is just having a hard time knowing it herself." Elliot spoke, and I sighed as I ran my hands through my hair.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you this morning. I bet you think I'm crazy." I sighed.
"How many times do I have to tell you that I know you are crazy?"
"Every single day, I guess."

"We put him up for adoption when he was three. We just had another baby, and he tried to kill her." Pamela Cooper spoke. I looked down at my pad of paper and wrote that down before looking at her again.
"How many children do you have?" Elliot asked.
"6. 7 if you count Jacob." She sighed. Her husband came into the room and handed Elliot his coffee before sitting down beside his wife.
"And are any of your other children living here at home? Or did you put them up for adoption also?" I asked, a little colder than I had intended.
My children are my life. I couldn't imagine raising a child for three years, let alone the nine months you carry them, and then just give them up for adoption.
"Our eldest, Johanna, is out on her own. And so is our son, Kevin." Kevin Sr. replied as he looked at us. I could see they were angry and shutting down.
"Have you had contact with either of them lately?" Elliot asked as he ran his hand over his face.
"No, we haven't," Pamela replied.
"Okay, thanks," Elliot spoke before he stood and I followed.
We walked outside and my husband stopped me by the sedan.
"They aren't us. Those kids and Jacob are better off probably not being around them. We need to focus on the two out of the house, and then call CPS to look at the kids that they still have."
"Can I call Mary and Chris on our way back?" I questioned.
"Why are you asking me?" He breathed.
"Because I'm gonna get all emotional and I'm going to tell Mary that I love her again. And then tomorrow, when I go home to shower and check in on them, I'm going to have her talk to me about who has been picking on her." I spoke.
"You do what you have to do. Let me say goodnight to them before you hang up. Also, Olivia?"
"Yeah?"
"You are an amazing mother."
