Silhouettes and shadows danced around him, just out of reach, muffled voices whispered, just out of hearing. He floated, as if underwater, and the world seemed far far away. Movements were sluggish and almost impossible, his body felt heavy and unresponsive. Floating in the world watching as scenarios and people wrapped in shadows moved past, always out of reach and quickly out of sight. His eyes were quickly drawn to a slowly approaching figure in front. Slowly coming into focus like a camera lense was a female, in a black trench coat and heavy boots. Her long blue hair floated around her, giving a surreal look, and framing her pale face. Her eyelids fluttered open to reveal purple with red flecks, sadness and fear filled her gaze. Her lips moved but a voice seemed to come through later and faint. "It's time to wake up." She seemed to whisper. Blackness started to creep around the edges of his world as she kept whispering the same words. The blackness enveloped her body and soon he began to fall. Into the abyss below him, her words following his descent.

Dark's POV

My eyes were flooded with light as I cracked my eyelids open, forcing me to quickly close them again. I tried opening them again, groaning in the few moments my eyes took to adjust. There was a white ceiling above me, but soon two faces came into my view. I recognised one as a female with short hair that was brown with red and orange tips. She was slightly tanned with large brown eyes that filled with tears of relief.

"Dark?" Her voice quivered with concern and fear. Something tugged at my memory.

"Angel??" I spoke in barely a hoarse whisper, my throat and mouth were dry. Her eyes lit up and a tear spilled down her face as her rounded face split into a happy smile. I turned my attention to the second face, a male with pale skin and piecing blue eyes. He had a pierced eyebrow and nose and his hair was short, well groomed and coloured in a bright rainbow. His eyes were narrowed in suspicion and filled with relief at the same time. "Jamie?" I croaked, recognising him as well.

"Hey buddy, welcome back" He gave a smile, his thick British accent filled with a sad happiness. "I'll go quickly grab the nurse." He gave another smile, patted Angel on the head and rushed out, wiping his eyes on a sleeve.

"He's crying again.." Angel muttered quietly, sitting down next to the bed.

"Sorry if I gave you two a scare. I probably drank a bit too much last night." Dark gave a chuckle quietly, but it was cut short with a wince and a groan of pain.

"Darkie..." Angel's voice was filled with a hopeless sadness I couldn't understand. It isn't like it is the first time I've been in the hospital for drinking. I paused as I noticed her tears, she was crying. Why were she and Jamie crying so much?

A woman in a white doctor's coat rushed in, Jamie close on her heel. "Welcome back, Mr Thomas." She spoke quickly, pulling the stethoscope from her neck. "I'm just gonna have a quick look at your heartbeat." She pulled up my shirt and placed the cold metal on my chest. I stared at my stomach and chest, my skin was pale, like I hadn't seen sun in years. Even worse were the scars that covered my upper torso, how did I get those?? I looked over at Jamie who seemed to avoid my gaze. The doctor spoke up again, drawing my attention to her. "Her heart is a little slower than average but it is healthy which is a good sign." She turned to Jamie and Angel, "Why don't the two of you go to Alexa and sort out the paperwork now, I need to ask Mr Thomas a few questions."

"We'll be back soon Dark." Angel gave my shoulder a squeeze, and walked out with Angel.

"Now Mr Thomas, my name is Doctor Lia." She gave a sigh, sitting next to me. "Do you know where you are?"

"I'm assuming this is a hospital." I responded, slowly sitting up and groaning with the sudden shooting pain from my side.

"Do you know why you're here?" She continued, scribbling a note on a clipboard that I hadn't noticed before.

"Must have drunk way too much, got my stomach pumped. Something like that." I chuckled, wincing as the pain shot through my torso again. Why was I in so much pain, and why did I suddenly have those scars.

"Mr Thomas, I'm sorry to have to tell you this." Her eyes were filled with sympathy and pity. "You were brought to us just over three years ago, almost dead. We barely got you stable, but you went into that coma almost immediately after we did."

I froze, staring at her. Three years? How could that be? "This has to be some sort of prank." The words felt empty in my voice. I knew it wasn't a joke, that this was all real. But I couldn't admit it, couldn't let it be real. "Bring Jamie and Angel back in. I want to see them." I flung the covers, containing the disgust and shock at my pale skin, and attempted to get off the bed. I couldn't do it, my legs were not responding, not working. I clung to the bed desperately, crawling back up like a dog with its tail between its legs in defeat. I felt defeated, felt lost. How could I have been in a coma for three years? "I want them back in now!" I raised my voice a little, trying to ignore the clear waver in my tone.

"Very well Mr Thomas." She gave me a sad smile and left me alone in the white room. Angel rushed in breaths later, her eyes red and puffy, black streaks from mascara staining her cheeks.

"Darkie!!" She gave a smile and rushed over to hug me. I held back my wince, not wanting to worry her. She must have been through so much already.

"Angel.." I muttered into her ear as she held me tightly. "I think there is something wrong."

She pulled her head away and looked at me in terror. "What do you mean? Do you feel okay? Should I get Doctor Lia?" Her words came at me at a rush.

"It's my memory." I kept my voice low, I was scared. Not because I had been in a coma. But because I couldn't remember anything. "I know who you guys are. But that's it. I don't remember much else. How we met, what we did. I just can't remember anything."

"Darkie..." Her hands squeezed my own as Jamie walked in. She spun to him and spoke quickly. "He's got some sort of amnesia, Jamie!" His eyes widened at her words and I watched as he rushed from the room. Probably to find that doctor lady. What was her name? Mia? I felt darkness closing in around me, like walls. I couldn't go to sleep. I fought against it, but I couldn't stop it. I looked at Angel's sad smile as she lay me down on the scratchy pillow.

"We'll be here when you wake up, Darkie." She whispered, patting my head. "Promise." I couldn't fight any longer, and I succumbed to the darkness, falling into a restless and dreamless sleep. Maybe it was all a nightmare. Maybe I would wake up and find it was all a nightmare...
